The Bachelor bachelorette Sarah Trott claims she joined Matt James' cast of bachelorettes with the understanding she'd be able to communicate with her family during filming but she wasn't allowed to do so once the season began.

"A couple of people told me that I would be able to talk with family," Sarah, who quit The Bachelor during Monday night's episode, told Entertainment Tonight.

"I thought I would be able to communicate with my parents and have access to a phone and talk with them, but some of those things turned out differently once I got there."

While cast members typically don't have access to their phones while filming The Bachelor or The Bachelorette, Sarah alleges she signed on for the show under false pretenses that she'd be able to get in touch with her father, who is battling the terminal illness, ALS.

"I was hopeful that I would be able to stay in connection with him but that really wasn't a possibility when I got there," Sarah said. "So that was pretty difficult."

On The Bachelor earlier this week, Sarah was shown having several emotional breakdowns over her insecurities and homesickness, which resulted in Matt giving the bachelorette extra time and attention, both during a group date -- that she wasn't asked to be a part of -- and at the beginning of Serena Pitt's one-on-one date.

The other women were furious Sarah was stealing their time away from Matt, and since Sarah could feel the target growing on her back, she ended up isolating herself from her fellow bachelorettes for nearly two days.

When Sarah finally emerged from her bedroom to apologize to the ladies for her actions, the 24-year-old broadcast journalist from San Diego, CA, felt "attacked" by the group.

Sarah decided to leave the show after the women lashed out at her, and Sarah told Matt that many of the bachelorettes had been "cruel and malicious" to her.

"It was really tough to relive that but I'm focusing on the positive," Sarah told ET after watching Monday night's The Bachelor broadcast.

"I'm human and I sometimes think we forget about that. We see people, characters on TV, and we forget that they're dealing with really heavy things sometimes and you truly never know what somebody's going through. So rewatching that was really tough," Sarah explained.

Anna Redman and Serena Chew, for example, said Sarah's behavior felt "manipulative," "calculated" and "toxic."

And Victoria Larson accused Victoria of being a selfish and "calculative little b-tch" while refusing to accept Sarah's apology.

"I just think hearing what some of the women had to say, it just went too far. It got really hurtful and it hurt seeing that," Sarah explained to ET, adding that she felt "misunderstood" by the ladies.

"But again I'm trying to focus on the good and preserve my mental well-being, because at the end of the day, that's the most important thing."

Sarah, however, said "it really meant a lot" to her that Katie Thurston initiated a conversation with her when she was feeling down and bullied.

Katie approached Sarah and urged her to continue exploring her connection with Matt, but Sarah admitted she was "not cut out" for this process and all of her insecurities were surfacing.

"I need to put my well-being first, and I'm not in a good headspace here," Sarah cried to Katie in the latest episode.

"And I haven't really opened up to you about the situation with my dad, but he has a terminal illness, and it's not years or months -- it's maybe, like, weeks. And that's really weighing on my heart too, time away from him. I thought I was ready for this, but I have to be true to myself."

Once Sarah opted to quit, Katie -- who lost her father in 2012 -- asked Matt's remaining bachelorettes "to stay classy" because they didn't know everyone's story and Sarah had been dealing with a big family issue.

"What I don't want is for her to think she was bullied out of her," Katie explained to the group.

Sarah also revealed Rachael Kirkconnell and Bri Springs attempted to console her, although the sweet moment wasn't shown on television. 

"A scene that didn't make it, Rachael and Bri are so sweet and they came to comfort me," Sarah shared.

"I did make good friends and there were moments where I was thinking, 'These are friendships that I can have moving forward.' So I think that's a positive, too."

Sarah therefore told ET that she hopes Matt ended up choosing Rachael or Bri in the end.

"They were the first to comfort me and they were absolute sweethearts," Sarah recalled.

"I can imagine them being in the Top 4 just because they are really sweet and smart girls, from what I saw, and that is the kind of person Matt should end up with."

Sarah -- who continues to take care of her father while working as a freelance journalist and splitting her time between Los Angeles and San Diego -- insisted that she went on the show for the right reasons.

"I went in there with that full intention to find love with Matt and was expecting to be there for the full two months, but of course I couldn't have anticipated how difficult it could be," Sarah shared.

"So I had to do what was right for my mental health and my family, and looking back, I don't have any regrets. I think I made the right choice."

According to a source, Sarah "absolutely would've stayed" on The Bachelor if tension and drama didn't escalate the way it had, Us Weekly reported.
