The Bachelor star Brad Womack has confirmed reports that he had several run-ins with the law in his younger days.

"I'm sure I wouldn't be the first to admit that I had a couple of missteps when I was a teenager some 20 odd years ago. Some of the claims have been blown out of proportion but I took responsibility for my actions and took immediate measures to remedy the situation," Womack told People.

"It was just part of my growing pains back when I was still young and naive. You learn from your experiences good and bad and you move on. It ultimately builds character."

Earlier this week, Star Magazine reported the 38-year-old The Bachelor star has a criminal rapsheet in Texas that includes carrying a forged driver's license, public intoxication and passing a bad check.

According to E! News, Womack -- who had taken his step-father's last name and was known as Stephen Bradley Pickelsimer at the time -- received 180 days of probation for the forgery charge.
