The Bachelor star Colton Underwood apparently doesn't believe Elyse Dehlbom is fit to be the next leading lady of The Bachelorette.

Following Elyse's unexpected departure from The Bachelor on Monday night's episode, Colton shared his opinion on why he doesn't think the 31-year-old makeup artist should star on The Bachelorette's upcoming fifteenth season.

"I don't know that this format is exactly for her," Colton told Entertainment Tonight at ABC's Winter Television Critics Association press tour on Tuesday.

"I'm not saying that just to spite her, I'm just saying it's realistic. [The process] is a lot. It took me a couple shows, I guess, to get there and really realize and believe in it."

Elyse decided to quit Season 23 of The Bachelor when only 13 women remained in Thailand because she hadn't received enough one-on-one, uninterrupted time with Colton.

"I want the time and attention a relationship deserves... I can't -- like literally can't accept a proposal after a few months of sharing your time and attention with other people. I can't do it," Elyse told Colton before leaving Thailand.

Elyse added that she wasn't falling in love with the 26-year-old charity founder and former professional football player like her fellow bachelorettes claimed to be halfway through the season.

Colton didn't exactly burst into tears once Elyse removed herself from the running for his heart, but her exit shook him up and resulted in him doubting whether The Bachelor was really going to work for him.

"I came to the realization that yes, I am the Bachelor, and yes, I have this title and I have the roses in my hand, but that doesn't make me invincible to getting my heart broken, and these women leaving when they want to leave," Colton told ET.

Colton was frustrated Elyse gave up on him and their relationship, but he claims to harbor no hard feelings or resentment.

"I respect her choice and for her to stand up and do what she felt was best for her," Colton explained.

"But it also sort of hit home for me. It's being told, 'Hey, it's not exactly what I want, or it's not quite there.' So it's tough. It's always tough to watch that."

Colton admitted in Monday night's episode it's his "worst nightmare" to fall in love with a woman and be rejected in the end, especially if he chooses to get down on one knee and the woman doesn't love him back or isn't ready to commit.
