The Bachelor star Joey Graziadei has explained why he canceled the cocktail party but gave Maria Georgas more time before the Final 4 Rose Ceremony in Jasper.

On The Bachelor's latest episode, Joey decided to cancel a cocktail party Alberta, Canada that would have allowed Maria, Daisy Kent, Jenn Tran, Kelsey Anderson, Kelsey Toussant, and Rachel Nance more time with Joey before hometown dates.

Jenn, Maria, Kelsey T. and Rachel were particularly upset because they were the ones fighting for only two available roses. (Both Daisy and Kelsey A. had received roses during their one-on-one dates with The Bachelor star).

But much to the women's dismay, Joey singled out Maria and asked her to talk in private before handing out the roses.

"So the cocktail party canceling was mainly because at the group-date afterparty, we had very long conversations. I felt really good," Joey explained on the February 29 episode of the "Bachelor Happy Hour" podcast, which is co-hosted by Bachelor in Paradise spouses Joe Amabile and Serena Pitt.

"I know you can't see it all, but I felt really good where I was at, and I thought I had a good idea."

But Joey clarified, "The only conversation I didn't feel like I fully had closure on was Maria's conversation because it did get derailed from what I thought it was going to be."

Joey admitted he struggled with whether to have a cocktail party since there was one person he felt he really needed to speak with.

"It's kind of hard to be like, 'I want to have a cocktail party for everyone,' even when you want more time, when I felt like I pretty much knew what I thought I needed to do," Joey explained.

"But I needed to talk through something with Maria to make sure that I understood where she was at. So it's definitely a difficult situation, but I don't want to have those conversations and, again, possibly give someone false hope."

Joey elaborated on how he felt his conversations with the bachelorettes on the group date were sufficient enough to make up his mind about whom the roses needed to go to.

"I thought I had an idea of what was coming next," The Bachelor star confirmed. "But it was tough! I wish I maybe could've talked to everyone, but it just kind of wasn't in the cards for how that night ended up."

When Joey pulled Maria aside for a chat, Rachel was shown making a snide comment about how she thought Joey didn't want to have conversations with anyone that night.

But Joey was apparently feeling insecure about where Maria stood with him.

Earlier in the week, Maria had threatend to quit the show.

"Bringing you to meet my family, knowing that you are that way with these other women, it just doesn't sit right with me. My biggest fear would be doing all of this and not ending up with you. It's gotten the best of me, and I don't know if I can do this anymore," Maria told Joey during a group date.

Joey told Maria that he was "shocked" and "didn't expect" to hear this from her.

"My brain can understand, but honestly, my heart doesn't get it because I thought we were going somewhere. So is this it? Is your mind made up? I feel like it might be," Joey replied.

"I think it is," Maria responded. "I hate this."

Maria then stood up and left the conversation, and Joey appeared disappointed and upset. Joey was afraid to have his feelings for Maria build and then deal with her leaving him. He said he needed a woman who was going to follow through with the journey and not give up on him, no matter what.

When Maria returned to her conversation with Joey, she acknowledged how she had "a moment" and may have overreacted. Maria shared how she tended to think out loud a lot, and Joey insisted that he loved that about her.

"If you felt the way I felt, there would be no way you would be [quitting]. That makes me want to hold back from letting the feelings I'm truthfully feeling start to develop too," Joey shared with Maria.

"Whoever I choose at the end, I'm in... and you have to start believing that it can be you. I need someone who's in it fully."

Maria agreed to trust the process because she could truly see a future with Joey, but Joey left the conversation feeling "conflicted." He questioned if Maria could ever really "get there" with him.

Prior to the Rose Ceremony, Joey therefore asked Maria for confirmation that she truly wanted to continue dating him with confidence in her heart.

Maria told Joey exactly what he needed to hear, assuring The Bachelor star that she'd stick it out with him and wasn't going anywhere. Maria let Joey know that she was all in and wouldn't let him down.

Joey therefore handed out the two roses to Rachel and Maria.

"It's definitely tough to know that I wasn't enough. That's not fun," Jenn cried in her final words.

"I know we would've been amazing together. I know that we would've been so happy, and I'm totally going to miss him. I know what I have to offer. I know the amazing woman that I am, and I know that someone else will be more than happy to be my person. I just hope that I find someone as special as him one day."

Kelsey T. also appeared crushed, but Joey explained how his strongest connections were with Daisy, Kelsey A., Maria and Rachel.

Maria has made waves on The Bachelor season thus far. She has been accused of being a bully and gaslighting other women in the mansion, and Maria has admitted she was "no innocent" in the drama.

But Joey has said in the media that Maria was "misunderstood," and he chose to focus on their strong physical and emotional connection, which ultimately resulted in Joey sending Maria's enemies -- Sydney Gordon, Lea Cayanan, and Jess Edwards -- home.
