Jesse Csincsak told the magazine he wouldn't be surprised if Galavis, a 32-year-old former pro soccer player and single dad, took on The Bachelor opportunity for money.
"Deep down, he's probably thinking, 'Hey, if I can make $100,000 and create some notoriety, then maybe I could be the next Chris Harrison and make a million dollars a year,'" explained Csincsak, who won the fourth season of The Bachelorette.
"I think the guy's hard-up for money and looks at this as an easy paycheck."
Other sources reportedly claimed Galavis wanted to date on a reality show simply because he needed help getting over his ex-girlfriend Carla Andreina Rodriguez, a 36-year-old Venezuelan-born actress. The couple are parents to a daughter named Camila, who was born on Valentine's Day in 2009.
The Bachelorette's fifth-season star Jillian Harris, however, defended Galavis and his intentions.
"He seems like a really cool and genuine guy. From the premiere I thought he was really adorable," Harris said.
As for her own experience with the franchise, Harris explained, "I wanted to find love for sure, but I didn't think that I would actually find love on the show. It's an adventure."
"Life is taking risks and trying new things and knowing if opportunities like this arise, you have to give it a shot. If Juan Pablo finds love, becomes really famous and makes a lot of money, big deal! This isn't Mother Teresa's journey of making the world a better place. This is The Bachelor."
