The Bachelorette alum Tayshia Adams has revealed why she never publicly explained the reasons behind her breakup with Zac Clark.

Tayshia got engaged to Zac while filming The Bachelorette's sixteenth season in August 2020. After the show's finale aired in December 2020, the couple announced their split nearly one year later in November 2021.

When Tayshia co-hosted The Bachelorette's 18th season starring Michelle Young, reports of her breakup with Zac had surfaced by the time she filmed The Men Tell All special, and so Tayshia told Kaitlyn Bristowe that she felt "heartbroken" and the end of her romance was "really tough" and "very heavy" for her.

But that's about all Tayshia ever said to the press after the couple shocked fans by calling it quits on their relationship and ending their engagement.

"Him and I both know the truth and where we stand, and I've actually never said anything in the media about our relationship except for we're no longer together," Tayshia, 32, told Us Weekly on Wednesday.

"And I know people might think otherwise, but that's literally the only statement we've ever given out."

Tayshia said she and Zac had made a conscious decision to respect each other and keep the details of their split private.

"I think that's just something about maturity and how we decided to proceed," Tayshia explained. "And yeah, at the end of the day, no one else needs to know anything else."

Tayshia therefore joked that fans can "come up with all the speculation" they want, but she's just going to "keep being me."

Tayshia said the biggest lesson she took away from appearing on The Bachelor franchise is to remain true to herself.

"And I feel like I did that," Tayshia confirmed.

"I'm really proud of that and I feel like some people kind of get caught up in the mix of everything, and I think the best way -- the best practice -- is just to be you."

"And I think with that," she continued, "all of these things have come and it just kind of finds you when you're true to yourself. So I think that's my biggest lesson, is just to continue to remain grounded and be very thankful for everything."

While Tayshia has avoided speaking about Zac on a personal level, she suggested in May that he wasn't good enough for her.

When a troll criticized Tayshia for focusing on her career and putting marriage on the back burner, Tayshia insisted, "I still want marriage and to start a family more than anything... [I'm] waiting to be in a healthy supportive relationship while simultaneously being a successful woman; a cohesive unit, not one or the other."

She added, "I want to build an empire, I want to go after my dreams and I want my partner to be supportive of that as they follow their own dreams as well. I want a relationship where we cheer each other on. None of that has changed."

Tayshia went on to say, "Maybe applaud me for not settling, staying to true to myself, going after my dreams and working on myself in the interim to be the best version of me for the right person."

Earlier this year, Tayshia said she had "no desire to date" or join dating apps. She even said she ignored DM's on Instagram from men.

And with 2022 coming to a close, Tayshia is still single and "working" on her priorities and bettering herself.

For Zac's part, a source told Us in late February that he's also doing "fine" after his split from Tayshia.

The 36-year-old addiction specialist's friends were "trying to help him move on" from Tayshia by pushing him to join an exclusive dating app like Raya.

"He gets excited about the idea of dating again but has trust issues from being in the spotlight," a source shared with the magazine at the time.

"His biggest fear is getting close to someone, breaking up, and then that girl sharing with the world about their relationship."

While Tayshia and Zac have remained tight-lipped about their split, Us reported in late 2021 that the former couple "couldn't fully commit to each other" due to their busy schedules and they "eventually realized it wasn't going to work and their relationship ran its course."

Following their televised engagement in 2020, Tayshia decided to move to New York City to be with her man, but she also kept her own place in California.

In a February 2021 interview with Marie Claire, the previously-divorced The Bachelorette star revealed she had decided to keep her own place "for peace of mind" since this is "not [her] first rodeo."

Prior to starring on The Bachelorette 16 in 2020, Tayshia competed on The Bachelor's 23rd season, which aired in early 2019.

Colton Underwood eliminated Tayshia during his round of overnight Fantasy Suite dates.
