The Bachelorette's tenth-season couple Andi Dorfman and Josh Murray split after eight months of being engaged, and according to sources, their demise was inevitable.

"Andi is very dominant and was too much for Josh to handle. He tried to break up with her many times before, but Andi didn't want it to end," a show insider told Us Weekly in its January 26 issue.

"It was over for Josh for a long time. He realized he couldn't make it work."

Added a source, "There was a constant struggle over who was the alpha in the relationship."

Since both Dorfman and Murray have very strong personalities, they apparently butt heads a lot.

Following their televised courtship, "they both wanted to take the reins of the relationship," explained the show insider, adding that their power struggle came to light in both private and public situations.

"Andi would speak for Josh," a Dorfman source told Us. "Josh couldn't stand that she was so controlling."

The pair reportedly never moved in together but still spent nights at each other's Atlanta homes. At The Bachelor's nineteenth-season premiere January 5 in Hollywood, Murray poked fun at Dorfman's bad habits.

"She's not clean at all," Murray griped. "I can't even get in the closet. There are clothes and shoes everywhere. I woke up with a pin in my leg the other day from her sewing. I got stabbed in the leg."

"He was so similar to previous boyfriends who broke her heart," continued the show insider.

As for Dorfman, she reportedly resented how close Murray is with his family, especially since his little brother Aaron, 24, a professional football player.

"Josh's family revolves around Aaron," the insider explained, adding that Dorfman was very jealous.

"In theory, Andi was okay with that, but in actuality, she wasn't."

Dorfman allegedly didn't congratulate Aaron on his engagement to 24-year-old local TV anchor Kacie McDonnell in October 2014, and the insider said Murray's family "didn't understand why."

Murray reportedly made up his mind to cut ties right after the holidays and their trip to Los Angeles for The Bachelor's January 5 premiere, where the pair had been openly talking about their wedding plans -- and although a little off -- seemed fine.

"We're just looking forward to settling down and just relaxing and having some fun with each other," Murray told show host Chris Harrison that night.

"I feel like once you start planning though, there's no stopping. So I've got to, like, really be ready to plan," added Dorfman, who was affectionately stroking her then-fiance's back throughout the whole interview.

The couple then surprisingly announced their breakup only three days later, and according to another source, both Dorfman and Murray promised one another they'd stay silent about the split in public.

"After several months of being engaged and working on our relationship, we have decided that it's best for both of us to go our separate ways. We are very sad that it has come to this point, but this is what's best for both of us individually," Dorfman and Murray announced in a joint media statement.

"We will continue to be good friends and have nothing but great things to say about each other and wish each other the best."

A friend close to the Murray family backed up the couple's explanation for their split.

"It's tough on both of them, but Josh wants nothing but the best for Andi. He has not a bad word to say about her," Jason King told Us.

Dorfman, 27, and Murray, 30, got engaged in May although the proposal didn't air on The Bachelorette until late July. At the time, they had been banking on a Spring 2015 wedding.
