ABC reportedly declined comment on the couple's split.
The sources' claims are consistent with the July 6 issue of Life & Style which had reported Nilsson and Toops were having problems. The last time either individual posted a photo of each other on Instagram was weeks ago, and in the early stages of their relationship, they were very active on social media.
Season 11's 25 suitors had to vote for Nilsson or current The Bachelorette star Kaitlyn Bristowe to become the official Bachelorette on Night 1, and Nilsson lost, leaving her devastated. However, Toops, who voted for Nilsson to stay, quit on Bristowe halfway through her first Rose Ceremony to follow his heart.
The Bachelorette season has since been airing some clips here or there of Nilsson and Toops' blossoming romance, and fans have been extremely optimistic Nilsson had found the love of her life.
However, in more recent episodes, things were turning sour for the lovebirds. When Nilsson introduced Toops to her mother and gushed about him in a late June episode, the mother appeared unamused and referred to Toops as her daughter's "friend." Ouch.
Things slid even more downhill when the couple revealed they were going to try to make a long-distance relationship work.
Nilsson, who resides in Los Angeles, was going to be separated from Toops, a musician heading home to Nashville. Toops admitted during a Bachelorette broadcast he felt sad to be leaving, while Nilsson confessed it was going to be a real test for them both. She had her "fingers crossed" though.
