"I was really excited to see what was going to happen between the two of us next, and that's something I'm never going to get to know. You know, I was just hoping to share a lifetime of adventures with this beautiful woman. And now I'm back to sharing a lifetime of adventures with myself -- which is less enticing."
"More than anything I want to be loved, and I hope I find love. It's difficult because I thought I might have found it. But in fact, I guess not."
Monday night's broadcast of The Bachelorette's eighth seventh-season episode featured Ashley traveling to the hometowns of all of her final four suitors --- Ames; Ben Flajnik, a 28-year-old winemaker from Sonoma, CA; Constantine Tzortzis, a 30-year-old restaurant owner from Atlanta, GA; and J.P. Rosenbaum, a 34-year-old construction manager from New York, NY -- and meeting their families.
Afterward, Ashley and the men reunited at The Bachelorette mansion in Malibu, CA for their next Rose Ceremony and she eliminated Ames after determining that, while he was an incredible and unique person, she didn't have a strong romantic connection with him.
"This is not easy... I care so much about you, and I want you to know that," Ashley told Ames after his elimination.
"And I'm lucky to have you in my life... um... I'm composed all the time, but right now, I don't know," Ames replied. "You're an exceptional person, and I've been so impressed all the way through."
"Thanks Ames," Ashley said.
"It's been totally beautiful, and full of the unexpected. And even more poetic than I would have ever would have imagined. And I'll remember every second of it for the rest of my life," Ames continued.
"I will too," Ashley replied.
