The Bachelorette star Emily Maynard says bachelor Doug Clerget's downfall was his decision to show her too little attention too late in the game.

"Poor Doug got about a thousand hints to make a move, but he didn't pick up on it until I was breaking up with him," The Bachelorette star wrote on her People blog.
"Could there have been a worse time to try and kiss me? I literally had to watch on TV with my hands over my face because I was mortified for the both of us. Was 'thank you for that' really the best I could come up with [afterwards] in that moment? Seriously?!"
Maynard eliminated Clerget, who came across very shy throughout the season and insisted he had a very traditional outlook on dating, after realizing she had been spending more time fighting for his heart than capturing it.
"Ever since I gave him the first-impression rose I felt like I spent more time begging Doug to open up to me, rather than actually getting to know him. And after [Arie Luyendyk Jr.] told me he loved me, it made me realize how different so many of my relationships were," Maynard said, adding that it might've been an issue to meet Clerget's 11-year-old son Austin during his hometown date the following week had she kept him around.
"As a mother, I didn't feel right involving his son knowing how serious we should be at this point and we obviously weren't there."
Maynard also ousted bachelor John Wolfner -- whose ex-girlfriend brutally cheated on him in his past -- in Prague for similar reasons. The Bachelorette star came to grips with the fact she had other relationships moving faster, and she didn't see there being enough time for Wolfner to catch up and surpass the strong connections she had already developed.
"I was really happy when he opened up to me at dinner. I can only imagine the heartbreak he went through with his ex-girlfriend. Based on that conversation I know he will make a wonderful, loyal husband one day. Unfortunately, I think our relationship needed more time and that's the one luxury we just don't have," Maynard wrote.
