The Biggest Loser host Alison Sweeney then revealed a surprise in the way the game would be played. Five teams would be training with two new unknown trainers at a "secret" location, while six teams would be working out with regular trainers Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels at the ranch. Their first challenge would determine who their trainers would be.
The challenge required each team to take turns running a total of 5K on manual treadmills, in which the order they finished would determine the order they would be allowed to pick their trainers. The teams to select the new trainers would receive four weeks of immunity, while the teams who opted to train with Bob and Jillian would risk going home after only one week.
The competition commenced and the Yellow Team members Justin and Rulon finished the race first, winning the ability to choose first which trainers they preferred to work with. They were then followed by the Gray Team members Moses and Kaylee, Aqua Team members Courtney and Marci, Green Team members Jennifer and Jay, Brown Team members Austin and Ken, Purple Team members Olivia and Hannah, Pink Team members Sarah and Deni, Red Team members Larialmy and Jaquin, Orange Team members Ana and Irene, Blue Team members Jesse and Arthur, and finally Black Team members Dan and Don.
Justin and Rulon, Moses and Kaylee, Austin and Ken, Sarah and Deni, and Larialmy and Jaquin all chose to train with the unknown trainers, while Courtney and Marci, Jennifer And Jay and Olivia and Hannah opted to work with Bob and Jillian.
Ana and Irene, Jesse and Arthur and Dan and Don were the last three teams to finish the race -- which left them with Bob and Jillian by default, as they were not given the opportunity to choose their trainers.
The teams then went with their selected or given trainers back to the ranch or to the undisclosed location to embark on their difficult first day workouts.

The five teams who trained with the two unknown trainers were safe from elimination as they received the four weeks of immunity, and therefore, their weight loss was irrelevant and they were not present at the weigh-in. However, Alison revealed that Rulon and Justin set the bar after they lost the most weight out of the five teams who worked out at the secret location.
Rulon dropped to 442 pounds after losing 32 pounds, while Justin lost 27 pounds and ended the week weighing 338 pounds. They lost a combined 59 pounds.
In addition, Moses set a record for the most weight-loss in one week ever on The Biggest Loser. He lost a total of 41 pounds, dropping to 399 pounds.
The six teams that trained with Bob and Jillian then stepped on the scale for their first elimination weigh-in.
Courtney dropped to 308 pounds after she lost 15 pounds, while Marci dropped to 224 pounds after shedding 14 pounds for a combined weight-loss of 29 pounds and a 5.17% weight-loss percentage.
Arthur shed 31 pounds and dropped to 476 pounds, while Jesse fell to 286 pounds after he lost seven pounds. They posted a combined weight loss percentage of 4.75% and dropped 38 pounds total as a team.
Jennifer and Jay lost a total of 46 pounds together, as Jennifer fell to 258 pounds after losing 20 and Jay dropped to 374 pounds following his 26-pound loss. They posted a 6.78% weight-loss percentage for the first week.
Olivia and Hannah both lost 16 pounds each, putting their combined total up to 32 pounds and posting a 6.29% weight-loss percentage. Olivia fell to the weight of 245, while Hannah dropped to 232.

"I'm doing it for Irene. I promised her that and I want to live a long life because I can see her grow up and get married, and I don't want my daughter to be alone. The Biggest Loser has given me the chance and encouragement and the motivation to take control and charge of my life so that I can actually start living it and enjoy my life," Ana explained.
