Joan denied Gregg a rose and sent him packing during The Golden Bachelorette's third episode that aired Wednesday, October 2 on ABC.

But Gregg, a 64-year-old retired university VP from Longboat Key, FL, apparently wasn't surprised by his Rose Ceremony elimination at all.

"Truthfully, I don't think Joan liked me that much," Gregg told Entertainment Weekly in an interview.

"There's 24 awesome men there, so it was a pretty competitive environment -- and boy, she handled that so well."

Gregg said that while he and Joan had "so much in common" on paper, it didn't seem like Joan was connecting with him on a deeper level.

"We had so much in common that I was pretty relaxed about [the process]. I gave her the sand dollar, and we talked about the beach being her happy place. Then for our next adventure, we had a fake beach setting," Gregg shared.

"There was a short shot of that on the show, and she enjoyed that. Then our third chance was to play a little disc golf, which was my favorite sport. The production company set that up in the driveway of the mansion."

Gregg recalled having a "great" time playing disc golf with Joan.

"But it was very clear to me very quickly that there were other men that she was more interested in -- and honestly, that was fine," Gregg acknowledged.

"I'm in love with half of the guys in the house, so when she was dating other people, I was like, 'Well, that's one of my new best friends.' So I was just happy for them."

After Gregg returned home from filming The Golden Bachelorette, he said he fell right back into his "normal routine" and approach to dating.

"My wife's been dead for three years, and it took me a while to get back into the swing of things," Gregg noted.

"I was married for 33 years, but it's not that hard to meet other people."

Gregg pointed out how he's an "outgoing" guy who loves to go out and "meet a lot of people."

"So I'm ready to date again, and it's not that big a deal," Gregg shared.

Gregg has also been receiving a lot of attention since The Golden Bachelorette premiered in September.

Gregg, in fact, said it's "funny" how many women have slid into his DMs with the intention of asking him out or just paying him a nice compliment.

"I wasn't really prepared for that. I haven't had an Instagram page until I got on the show," Gregg explained.

"There's an awful lot of really lovely, supportive people, and a few are bold enough to say, 'Hey, you're cute. I'm cute. Let's get it on.'"

"I'm staying with my youngest daughter right now up in the mountains, and she's like, 'Dad, just don't,'" he quipped.

Gregg admitted it's "really heartwarming" to feel wanted and desired at his age.

Gregg explained how it's nice that people find him attractive "from a distance" and want to boost his ego.

"The people that have bothered to slide into my DMs -- I had no idea what that meant -- but they are very precise in why they find me attractive and desirable," Gregg revealed.

"It's sweet because I like hearing that I'm funny and that I'm intelligent. And the guys, we really just really bonded, and I want the best for my new brothers."

Gregg said he really enjoyed staying up late with his "roommates" Pascal, Daniel "Dan" Roemer, and Charles King as well as getting to know the other bachelors on The Golden Bachelorette.

"I'm so close to those guys now," Gregg concluded.

Gregg was such a fan of The Golden Bachelorette cast that he said he wouldn't mind Joan ending up with most of the men in that mansion.

"I know she'll be fine because she had a great variety of people, and I know of at least five people that she could connect with," Gregg shared.

"At our age, you don't have to hit 100 percent. We all have learned how to live alone and with other people, so I don't think she's going to have a problem. Any one of those guys would be fantastic."

In addition to Gregg, Joan also sent Charles K. and Kim Buike home at the Rose Ceremony during the latest The Golden Bachelorette episode.
