Kim Zolciak has confirmed she is a bisexual after previously dodging questions about her sexual orientation.

"To have the opportunity to speak for myself and to have people understand what I'm going through is really special," Zolciak told Life & Style in a recent interview.

"I myself was confused and scared at first. Being able to speak from my heart and get this all out, it's a huge relief for me."

The Real Housewives of Atlanta star also confirmed recent reports that she is in a romantic relationship with female deejay Tracy Young.

"There were sparks, but [physically] it was a gradual situation," Zolciak told Life & Style. "Tracy made the first move. Our first kiss was passionate and exciting."

Earlier this month it was reported that Zolciak and Young had been dating for the past three months. However when she was initially questioned about the relationship, Zolciak responded that she was still with on-and-off boyfriend Big Papa.

"I've never denied anything. I don't lie. I'm not embarrassed by anything I've ever done in my life," Zolciak told Life & Style when asked if she ever attempted to deny her relationship with Young.

"But I wasn't ready to discuss it when the story broke. I hadn't even had the chance to talk to my family about it. It was so unfair."

Zolciak added that she and Young were both experiencing "heartbreak" when they met, and she thinks that brought them closer together.

"I had split up with Big Papa, and she had just ended a relationship she had been in for three years," explained Zolciak to Life & Style.

"The first night we met, we just connected on a different level. We ended up talking for two hours. After that, we started working in the studio together, remixing 'Tardy for the Party.' We gradually became closer."

Zolciak -- who has two children from a previous relationship -- said she hopes that her recent openness about her sexuality will help other people in the same situation cope with it better.

"I'm among the millions of parents who have been in a gay or lesbian relationship. It hasn't been an easy road lately, but I feel there are no mistakes in my life. Everything happens for a reason," she told Life & Style.

Bravo renewed The Real Housewives of Atlanta for a third season in January and subsequently announced that all of its cast members will return.
