Kim Richards has allegedly checked herself into rehab following an embarrassing drunken display at a hotel lounge in Beverly Hills.

"Kim went to rehab finally because she got arrested, she humiliated her kids and she wants to avoid jail," a source told People of The Real Housewives star. "If the arrest hadn't happened she wouldn't be going to rehab; it would be business as usual. She's in denial that she has a problem."

Richards was arrested at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on April 16 and charged with public intoxication, trespassing, resisting arrest and battery on a police officer. Insiders had witnessed her getting aggressive and loud, which ultimately "embarrassed" Richards enough to take matters into her own hands.

A source close to the reality TV star's family told People that Richards finally entered a treatment facility because her family and friends desperately wanted her to seek help for her "increasingly out-of-it behavior."

"A big part of all of this is that she is just stressed out," a Richards friend explained, referring to how her ex-husband and daughter's father Monty Brinson is currently battling stage IV cancer. "She is under a lot of pressure, especially because of Monty."

Richards, 50, will stay in rehab for as long as it takes to gain control over her substance abuse issues, according to TMZ.

Richards will appear on Dr. Phil's April 28 episode during which she'll sit down and discuss her ongoing struggle with alcoholism as well as her recent arrest.

A CBS press release for the broadcast revealed it will be an "explosive" Dr. Phil interview in which Richards will answer tough questions and face her three children who no longer want to deal with her "addiction and erratic behavior."

"I was angry and frightened and I was scared. I knew what I had done. The whole night is my fault. None of this would have happened if I didn't drink," Richards told Dr. Phil about her arrest at the Beverly Hills Hotel.
