Life just got a lot simpler for Paris Hilton, as The Simple Life star reported to jail late Sunday night to begin serving a minimum 23-day sentence for violating her probation on a September 2006 drunken driving misdemeanor.

"I am ready to face the consequences of violating probation," Hilton said in a statement released by Hutton, according to People. "During the past few weeks I have had a lot of time to think and have come to realize I made some mistakes. This is an important point in my life and I need to take responsibility for my actions. In the future, I plan on taking more of an active role in the decisions I make. I want to thank my family, friends and fans for their continued support. Although I am scared, I am ready to begin my jail sentence."
Hutton picked up the 26-year-old hotel heiress at her parent's house around 10:30PM PT, Reuters reported Monday, and drove his client to the Men's Central Jail in downtown Los Angeles where she surrendered to the sheriff's department and was driven to the jail in Lynwood, which is 15 miles away. Once there, People reported Hilton was required to rid herself of all personal property and was issued standard jail clothing, which consisted of an orange jumpsuit and personal hygiene items.
Around 1AM PT, Hilton was taken to her 12-by-8-foot cell that contains nothing more than two bunks, a table, sink, toilet and a small window, according to People. She better get used to those surroundings, as People reported Hilton will spend 23-hours-a-day in the cell over the next 23 days, meaning she'll only venture outside its confines for recreation or to meet with Hutton.
"Ms. Hilton will be housed in a cell by herself and will be segregated, in a special housing unit, from the general population during her stay at CRDF," reads the statement released by Hutton, according to People. Added sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitemore, "[Hilton will have little to no contact with the general inmate population] to ensure her safety as well as the safety of the jail staff."
Following her DUI last September, Hilton got off pretty lightly with three years' probation and the requirement that she "obey all laws" and enroll in alcohol education classes within 21 days. But in February when she was arrested once again in Los Angeles for driving without a valid license, which led prosecutors to recommend that she serve time behind bars for violating her earlier probation from the DUI. She was sentenced to 45 days in jail for violating her probation and was required to report to jail by Tuesday, June 5.
However she denounced the sentencing as "cruel and unwarranted;" appealed it; and petitioned California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger for a pardon. Eventually jail officials reviewed Hilton's case file and informed her she would have to serve "at least 23 days" for the parole violation -- significantly less time than the 45-day sentence she originally received but more than other celebrities have served for similar violations.
