The Voice coaches advanced nine artists during the start of the "Knockout Round" during Monday night's broadcast on NBC.

The Knockouts kicked off with Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera, Blake Shelton and Pharrell Williams pairing off members of their teams to duke it out over one spot in each matchup. The contestants were each allowed to sing a solo -- a song of their own choosing -- in the hope of outperforming their opponent.

During the Knockout Round, each coach is allowed only one "Steal" for his or her own team. An artist can only be stolen by another coach after losing his or her respective faceoff.

All the contestants were guided and assisted by The Voice's newest key adviser Miley Cyrus.

For "Team Blake," Angie Keilhauer sang "Take Your Time" against Paxton Ingram, who performed "Hometown Glory." Blake said Angie always challenges herself, while Paxton made it clear the song's lyrics meant something to him because the whole room could see and feel it. Blake ended up picking Paxton as the Knockout winner.

Adam paired Owen Danoff, who sang "She's Always a Woman," with Ryan Quinn, who belted out "Drops of Jupiter." Adam noted how they're stark opposites. Ryan is soulful but has trouble registering that in his performances. He's "proficient and reliable," whereas Owen hit amazing, beautiful notes and Adam simply called him special.

In the end, Adam went with his heart and selected Owen as the Knockout winner. However, Christina decided to steal Ryan for her own team because she had been a big fan of his since the Blind Auditions.

Pharrell matched up Hannah Huston with "House of the Rising Sun" and Malik Heard with "Isn't She Lovely." Pharrell explained that Hannah's performance couldn't have gone any better and her energy was felt and communicated. Malik, on the other hand, took the wheel with his voice and shared some "fire." Pharrell decided Hannah won the faceoff.

Blake paired Katie Basden, who sang "Gypsy," with Lacy Mandigo, who performed "Zombie." Blake complimented Katie on a flawless and beautiful vocal, also noting however, that Lacy was phenomenal and just "has this thing" about her. Blake opted to advance the girl who sang best that night, and that person was Katie.

But it wasn't the end of the road for Lacy. Both Pharrell and Adam tried to steal her. After the two guys bickered back and forth for a bit, Lacy wanted to join "Team Pharrell."

For "Team Christina," Alisan Porter sang "River" against Daniel Passino, who sang "Ain't Too Proud To Beg." Christina admitted Alisan was "a gift to the show" with her "God-given instrument" and she always provides the audience something new to discover. Daniel, however, put his heart out there on the floor and he's extremely dedicated to his craft.

It broke Christina's heart to let Daniel go, but she chose Alisan as winner of the Knockout.

The night wrapped with Pharrell matching up Emily Keener and Shalyah Fearing. Emily sang her own rendition of "Big Yellow Taxi," and Shalyah performed "A Broken Wing."

Pharrell appreciated how Emily took all the notes Miley had given her, and he said Shalyah was swinging over the fence into the parking lot. Both teenage girls were musically mature and "killed it," but Shalyah received a standing ovation from the coaches.

Pharrell went with his gut and picked Emily as the winner of the Knockout because she's an interesting singer and songwriter. Basically all of the other coaches believed Shalyah had won the matchup, so they were shocked about his decision. Adam then stole Shalyah and was absolutely thrilled about it.
