Max, a 23-year-old from Toledo, OH, and Cali, a 28-year-old from Salem, IA, were ousted from The Voice instead of Joana Martinez, a 15-year-old from Miami, FL, who was the other artist in the bottom three based on home viewer votes cast following Monday night's Top 13 performance show.

Max performed representing coach Kelly Clarkson's team on The Voice, Cali sang on behalf of Blake Shelton's team, and Joana will continue to represent Gwen Stefani's team going forward on the show.
After all three artists sang a survival song on Tuesday night's live show, America voted on The Voice official app and NBC.com via the show's "Instant Save" format to keep Joana in the competition.

The Voice host Carson Daly revealed Jake had been the most-streamed artist on Apple Music after Monday night's performance show.
On Tuesday night, Cali kicked off the elimination format by singing "The Chain" by Fleetwood Mac.
John Legend -- whose entire team survived the night and avoided the bottom three -- said Cali had shown a lot of different sides to herself in her performances throughout the season but he loved her "fire" side the most. John thought it was a great song choice and "really well done."
Blake had "no doubt" moving Cali along through the competition was the right decision to make because he said she deserved to be on the show.

"That performance tonight proves you deserve to be here. Every time you step on that stage, you give it every single thing you have," Blake said.
Max then took the stage with "Thinking Out Loud" by Ed Sheeran in the hope of being saved by America.
John gushed about how he loved Max and all the parts of his voice are "cool and interesting." He called Max "a gifted singer" and said it was a joy to watch him sing again.
Kelly admitted she was "super shocked" to see her artist in the bottom three, and she begged America to vote for him because he's "so talented."

And finally, Joana sang "Super Woman" by Alicia Keys for her last-chance song.
John complimented Joana for the way she had carried herself through the competition -- with so much poise -- and he said her range is so "big and powerful," making her a very impressive vocalist.
Gwen thought Joana's performance was "mind blowing," and she called the artist "fearless" and "strong" onstage. Gwen felt really honored to have served as Joana's coach thus far.
Home viewers then had a short five-minute window to vote for one of the three artists to stay on The Voice.
At the end of the final commercial break, the vote was 41% in Joana's favor, compared to 34% of the votes that had poured in for Max and 25% of the votes that had gone in Cali's direction.

Before Carson announced the results live, Cali said being mentored by Blake was "a dream" and her confidence level "went sky-high" just because of him. Blake in turn promised that Cali was born to make music.
Max told Kelly that she's "so cool" and being on The Voice had been an amazing experience, but Kelly said he could sing with her at her Las Vegas residency any time if he gets sent home.
And Joana thanked Gwen for bringing her out of her shell, but Gwen felt like she was the one who should be asking for Joana's autograph.
Carson revealed the final set of results at the end of the night, and Joana was instantly saved, sending Cali and Max home.
