The Voice claimed Outstanding Reality-Competition Program for the first time during Sunday night's awards show. The Voice defeated The Amazing Race, Top Chef, Project Runway, So You Think You Can Dance, and Dancing with the Stars in the category.

This marks only the second time The Amazing Race hasn't won the Outstanding Reality-Competition Program award in the eleven years since the Emmy category was created in 2003. The Amazing Race had an initial seven-year Emmy winning streak until Top Chef ended it in 2010. It then regained the honor in 2011 and held onto it in 2012 during the 63rd and 64th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards ceremonies.

The Voice went up against The Amazing Race for the award last year but lost.

"First of all... I'd like to thank our Academy, our incredible production team, our showrunners Audrey Morrissey, Lee Metzger, Stijn Bakkers. [The Voice creator] John De Mol for the great format, NBC for taking the risk, [NBC reality executives] Meredith Ahr and Paul Telegdy," The Voice executive producer Mark Burnett said as he accepted the award.

"Paul Telegdy was willing to put his job on the line for this [show], but [NBC executives] Steve Burke and Bob Greenblatt supported him. And great coaches, Carson Daly our host, and for the millions of Americans who've made it the No. 1 young American music show ever. Keep supporting [us], we're back on Monday. Keep us No. 1!"

In addition to Outstanding Reality-Competition Program, The Voice was nominated for four other Emmys this year: Outstanding Art Direction For Variety Or Nonfiction Programming; Outstanding Hairstyling For A Multi-Camera Series Or Special; Outstanding Lighting Design/Lighting Direction For A Variety Series; and Outstanding Technical Direction, Camerawork, Video Control For A Series.

The Voice also took home the award for Outstanding Lighting Design/Lighting Direction For A Variety Series.
