The Voice determined the last of its 40 "knockout" round semifinalists during Tuesday night's broadcast of the NBC reality singing competition's third season.

Two artists were added to each team's eight original "battle" round-winners via the show's new "steal" format in which each coach was allowed to "steal" two losing face-off contestants from the other coaches throughout the series of "battles." Unlike in The Voice's first two seasons, the losing artist of each face-off was not automatically eliminated from the competition.
Similar to the "blind auditions" phase, if more than one coach wanted to "steal" the artist in question, it became up to the contestant to decide which coach's team he or she would've like to join.
Now that the "battle" rounds are over and each coach has 10 artists on his or her team, The Voice's third season will move on to its new Knockout Round. For every team, each artist will perform individually against one of his or her own teammates one at a time. The contestants, who will be able to select their own songs to perform, will be surprised at the last minute by whom their coach chooses to put them up against.
At the end of the one-week Knockout Round, each coach will have his or her team down to five singers. Those Top 20 contestants will then advance to the season's live performance shows.
