The two coaches each began the night with five members remaining on his or her team; however, Gwen and Adam were afforded the opportunity to each invite a talented and memorable previously-eliminated artist to return to the Season 12 competition.
Gwen asked rocker Johnny Gates from Providence, RI, to be her "comeback artist," while Adam chose to bring back two-time The Voice contestant Johnny Hayes from Mobile, AL.
The Voice episode featured real-time voting and real-time results. America voted live to save two artists on each team, whose coach must then choose one of the four remaining artists to advance to next week's live shows, eliminating the other three hopefuls.
The four artists whom America voted through to the Top 12 were Team Adam's Jesse Larson from Minneapolis, MN, and Lilli Passero from Los Angeles, CA, as well as Team Gwen's Hunter Plake from Baton Rouge, LA, and Brennley Brown from Apple Valley, CA.
After America's vote, Adam decided to save Mark Isaiah from Mt. Pocono, PA, because the coach initially begged home viewers to vote for him. Adam believed Mark was capable of great things and that he could be a great mentor and guide for the artist's musical journey. Adam therefore eliminated Johnny H.; Josh West from Glendale, AZ; and Hanna Eyre from Laguna Niguel, CA.
Gwen opted to save Troy Ramey from Sea Cliff, NY, sending the following artists home: Johnny G.; Quizz Swanigan from North Little Rock, AR; and J Chosen from Albany, GA.
Tuesday night's episode kicked off with Team Gwen taking the stage one by one, and her three advancing artists arguably delivered the best performances of the bunch.
Troy performed "A Case of You" by Joni Mitchell and he exuded confidence and experience. Gwen felt like she was watching Troy at his own show. Brennley wowed the audience at age 15 with her vocal of "Fly" by Maddie &a Tae. Blake admitted he had made a huge mistake in letting Brennley go earlier in the competition, but Gwen noted it was a wonderful gift to have a young talented girl join her team.
Hunter took the stage with "Elastic Heart" by Sia and even got Adam on his feet clapping. Gwen noted that she was blown away by his "fragile" voice and that her team member mastered the song.
For Team Adam, his Top 3 artists -- Mark, Jesse and Lilli -- also impressed with their renditions of songs.
Mark sang "All Time Low" by Jon Bellion, and Adam said that America had yet to see the best version of himself and he couldn't wait to work with him more. Lilli performed "It's Too Late" by Carole King, and her coach called the artist a world-class singer. While subtle in her delivery, Adam said Lilli shows exactly how she's feeling and always brings emotion into the song.

Jesse pretty much stole the show with a standing ovation from all the coaches. He belted out "Sir Duke" by Stevie Wonder, and Adam insisted it was the best vocal and most soulful performance of the night "by far." Adam called Jesse "a wizard from another planet" because of his sneaky talents.
The Voice's Season 12 live shows will begin next week on Monday, April 24.
