Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee says "misconception" is his worst enemy.

"Just from my previous marriages to my band, all that stuff, people get these little blips of information about you, whether they're good or bad," he told Zap2it.com. "There's tabloids, this or that. A lot of people judge you on what they know about you, and they know so little."

Lee, 42, says his NBC reality show, "Tommy Lee Goes to College," will show there's more to him than just sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll.

" ... I'm actually a cool guy," the former husband of Heather Locklear and Pamela Anderson said. "Not a lot of people know that. They think I'm some crazy, tattooed, madman rocker, and I'm like, 'Come on, guys.'"

The show follows Lee for a semester of classes at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln.

"Tommy Lee Goes to College" bows Aug. 16 to coincide with the release of his latest album, "Tommyland: The Ride."
