Universal Pictures released its first trailer for its summer disaster picture, Twisters, on Super Bowl Sunday.
The 2-minute preview for the movie billed as "a current-day chapter of the 1996 blockbuster, Twister," stars Glen Powell, Daisy Edgar-Jones and Anthony Ramos as enthusiastic storm chasers with different agendas.
"Edgar-Jones stars as Kate Cooper, a former storm chaser haunted by a devastating encounter with a tornado during her college years who now studies storm patterns on screens safely in New York City," a synopsis said.
"She is lured back to the open plains by her friend, Javi (Ramos) to test a groundbreaking new tracking system. There, she crosses paths with Tyler Owens (Powell), the charming and reckless social-media superstar who thrives on posting his storm-chasing adventures with his raucous crew, the more dangerous the better."
The original film starred the late Bill Paxton as Bill, a TV weatherman who gets sucked back into tracking tornadoes when he goes to deliver divorce papers to his estranged wife Jo (Helen Hunt) just as a major storm is about to hit.
Cary Elwes played Jonas, the leader of a well-funded, media-savvy, but foolhardy team of twister chasers.
Sunday's clip showed the characters driving and running on foot through wind and rain in rural areas of the United States where vehicles and buildings are being destroyed by extreme weather.
Powell's Tyler, who calls himself "The Tornado Wrangler," at one point is seen encouraging a crowd to cheer, "If you feel it, chase it!"
He also privately tells Kate later, "You don't face your fears, you ride 'em."
