VH1 has announced it has ordered Mama Drama, a new docu-reality series which will chronicle the best-friend relationships of five youth-obsessed mothers and their adults daughters as they all live together under one roof, and will premiere the new series on January 1, 2012 at 9PM ET/PT.

Mama Drama will feature five sets of "wildly different women" from diverse backgrounds attempting to work their issues out with their grown daughters while living in the same house, according to the network. The mothers will strive to be their daughters' best friends by participating in partying, drinking and bonding activities.

"This show is emotionally and visually stimulating. You can't stop watching. These characters are real and raw and don't apologize for anything," Jersey Shore executive producer SallyAnn Salsano, who is also executive producing Mama Drama, told The Hollywood Reporter.

"With this show, I had the same experience I had in Jersey Shore [Season] 1, where I couldn't leave the control room because I could not believe what was happening before my eyes. At any second, chaos could erupt, and most days it did. When there was a fight in that house, it wasn't a regular reality show squabble -- it was personal. Whoever was saying something was going after someone's mother or daughter."

The 10-episode series, which will follow mothers "acting as if they are 15" by copying their daughters' fashion and night-life decisions in order to hang onto their youth, will force the moms to decide whether a more traditional approach to their mother-daughter relationships would be best for their children.

"We see examples of this all around today with mothers living vicariously through their daughters," VH1 executive Jeff Olde told The Reporter.

"Part of this speaks to a new cultural definition of age with women in their 40s and 50s no longer constrained by rules about how they need to dress or act. In some cases, this allows them to forge strong bonds with their daughters and true friendships. In other cases, they cross the line and forget their role as a parent and a role model."

In addition to Salsano for 495 Productions and Olde for VH1, Mama Drama is also being executive produced by Shelly Tatro and Brad Abramson.
