Leslie Husted of Benson told North Carolina Education Lottery officials she was watching the news on the day before her birthday when she heard about an unclaimed $1 million Powerball ticket sold in her town for the Feb. 20 drawing.

"I was sitting there watching and I just got this funny feeling that it could be us," Husted recalled. "When they said, 'Nobody has come forward yet,' I started shaking."

Husted said she called her husband before checking the ticket.

"I just told him, 'I think we might have won a million dollars,'" she said.

The player's husband urged her to go get the ticket and check the numbers.

"I went to go check the ticket and then I just started screaming," Husted said.

The win made for an extra special celebration.

"I won't forget this birthday, that's for sure," Husted said.

Husted said she plans to save her winnings for retirement.
