Fourth season of 'Fear Factor' to feature slew of special editions, including $1 million prize show

NBC has announced that production has begun in Los Angeles on the fourth season of NBC’s top-rated reality series Fear Factor” and it will feature many special editions of the program. Highlights of the action-packed new season hosted by Joe Rogan include a two-hour season premiere with a $1 million prize, holiday episodes celebrating Halloween and Christmas a la “Fear Factor” style.

The Associated Press reports that, during the preview of fall schedules by television networks last week, few reality shows made an appearance. In fact, only one of the 38 new shows could even vaguely be called a reality show: Steve Harvey's talent show. The other 37 new shows are all scripted.
NBC to air 'Average Joe,' a 'Joe Millionaire'-like reality dating show this summer

Variety reports that NBC has given six-episode commitment to "Average Joe," a relationship-oriented reality show that has already begun production. Stuart Krasnow ("America's Most Talented Kid") and Andrew Glassman are putting together "Average Joe" for NBC Studios.

In separate articles, Reuters/Variety reports that both NBC president Jeff Zucker and CBS president Les Moonves blasted the reality-show genre for distorting the February sweeps -- apparently because the biggest ratings successes of the month, Joe Millionaire and American Idol, ran on Fox.
