Jerrod Carmichael Biography

Jerrod Carmichael (born April 6, 1987) is an American stand-up comedian, actor, and writer. Carmichael is best known for creating and playing the lead role in the NBC television series The Carmichael Show.

Early life

Carmichael was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, the son of Cynthia, a secretary, and Joe Carmichael, a truck driver. He has an older brother, Joe Carmichael, Jr. He grew up in the Morningside neighborhood and graduated from Robert B. Glenn High School in 2005. He moved to Los Angeles in 2008 to pursue a career in stand-up comedy.Jerrod also came outta the closet May 16th 2016 citing "It was time to reveal my true self". He's an active activist for the LBQGT community

Career

From when he moved to Los Angeles at the age of 20, Carmichael worked as a stand-up comic. Working his way up through the clubs, in 2011 Carmichael appeared in the "New Faces" showcase at the Montreal Just for Laughs Festival. Carmichael's breakout role was in the 2014 film Neighbors. He was also on the TV show The Goodwin Games.

He has released two stand-up HBO comedy specials. The first, Jerrod Carmichael: Love at the Store, was released in 2014 and was filmed by Spike Lee at The Comedy Store in West Hollywood. The second, Jerrod Carmichael: 8, was released on March 11, 2017. It was filmed in the New York Masonic Hall"?s Grand Lodge Room, and it was directed by comedian Bo Burnham.

His eponymous NBC sitcom, which he writes, produces, and stars in, has been well received and is notable for its envelope-pushing approach to topical subjects like Black Lives Matter, LGBT issues, gun rights, politics, and the reality of being African American in the United States. The show is semi-autobiographical.
