Julia Garner Biography

Julia Garner (born February 1, 1994) is an American actress.

Early life

Garner was born in Riverdale neighborhood in Bronx, New York, to therapist Tami Gingold, who once enjoyed a successful career in Israel around 30 years ago as a comedian, and her father who is an art teacher. She has an older sister who is a producer. She still resides with them in their house in New York City. She considers actress Bette Davis to be a major influence on her acting style and citing Davis's performance in What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?.

Career

She started taking acting lessons at the age of 15 to overcome her shyness problem. She had her theatrical debut at the age of 17 in Sean Durkin's Martha Marcy May Marlene, playing the role of Sarah.

"I started doing student films at Columbia grad school, and this one student filmmaker, his girlfriend was interning at an open casting call for Susan Shopmaker. Later on, she did the stage reading for Martha Marcy May Marlene, then she cast it, and that was my first movie."
In 2012, director David Chase invited her to play a small role which he wrote specifically for her in his movie Not Fade Away. On January 29, 2013, it was announced that Julia was cast in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For as new character Marcy; a young stripper who crosses paths with another new character, Johnny (played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt). This would mark the first time she will act against a green screen.

In 2013, she starred alongside Ashley Bell in the horror film The Last Exorcism Part II and plays the lead in the American remake of the Mexican horror film We Are What We Are.
