Noam Gottesman (born 1963) is a New York City-based, Israeli-American businessman and former hedge fund manager known for co-founding GLG Partners. He is listed on the Forbes 400 list of richest people in America as having a net worth of $1.7 billion, as of March 2013.

Biography

Gottesman was born to a Jewish family, the son of Israel Museum President Dov Gottesman. He received a B.A. from Columbia University.

Gottesman took a job at Goldman Sachs London office where he rose to the position of Executive Director and managed global equity portfolios in the private client group. He left Goldman in 1995 together with Pierre Lagrange and Jonathan Green to co-found, GLG Partners. Under his tenure as co-CEO, GLG Partners grew to manage $24.6 billion and became publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange (November 2007); becoming the first pure-play hedge fund to go public in the United States. Gottesman and his partners sold the company to the Man Group on October 2010 for $1.6 billion. The acquisition created the world's largest publicly traded asset management firm. Post acquisition, Gottesman continued to serve as GLG's co-CEO until stepping down on January 2012 and becoming a non-executive Chairman of GLG's business in the US. Currently, Gottesman runs TOMS Capital, a New York City based investment company and is the new (10/2011) financial backer of Eleven Madison Park.

Personal life

Gottesman was married to Geraldine Gottesman with whom he has four children. They later divorced. He is discreet and rarely photographed but was snapped on several occasions in 2010 with Hollywood actress turned artist Lucy Liu. Gottesman comes from a family of art collectors and has been mentioned among the 200 most notable collectors on ARTnews' list and on the New York Observer's 50 New York Buyers Who Move the Art World list. His extensive contemporary art collection is thought to include works by Andy Warhol, Francis Bacon and Lucian Freud. In 2008, Gottesman sold his London home, No. 6 Palace Greens, Kensington Gardens to Indian steel tycoon Lakashmi Mittal for a reported £117 million ($230 million) making it the world's costliest home at the time.

He is a trustee of his alma mater Columbia University and served on the board of the Tate Gallery Foundation.
