Wake Me When It's Over is a 1960 comedy film starring Ernie Kovacs and Dick Shawn. A World War II veteran gets drafted again by mistake and sent to a dreary Pacific island. It is based on the novel of the same name by Howard Singer.

Plot

Applying for insurance due him from wartime military service, Gus Brubaker is snagged in a red-tape foulup and ends up back in uniform, assigned to an island base near Japan.

Capt. Charlie Stark, a pilot, is in charge. His superiors have all but forgotten the base is still on the island. Gus gets to know Ume Tanaka, daughter of the village's mayor, who shows him a pool of natural hot springs. Gus and Charlie conspire to open a resort hotel, with Doc Farringtom scamming a journalist about the water's "healing powers."

No-nonsense Lt. Nora McKay arrives and ends up lending a hand, Charlie developing a romantic interest in her as well. When the journalist Martinson, feels betrayed, he writes a story painting the place as a den of sin.

Gus is court-martialed. A congressional panel from Washington, D.C., launches an investigation, and Charlie ends up buzzing the courthouse in his jet, everybody temporarily taking leave of their senses until the whole affair gets straightened out.
