Final Decision: Split

Current Status: Divorced

Amber Bowles and Matthew Gwynne from the Charlotte, NC, area appeared on Season 9 of Married at First Sight in 2019.

Amber and Matt seemed to have immediate chemistry on their wedding day, as Amber gushed about how hot and sexy her husband was.

The pair also had an incredible honeymoon, but then things took a drastic turn once the couple returned to the real world.

Matt began spending more and more time away from Amber. One night, he disappeared for a total of 24 hours, without calling or texting Amber, and left his wedding ring at home in his nightstand.

Amber was so hysterical she had to take the next day off work.

Matt's behavior became a pattern, as he refused to come home several more nights in the short eight-week experiment.

Amber really liked Matt and was desperate for her marriage to work, but she felt alone, unloved and insecure.

Towards the end of the marriage experiment, Amber learned from her best friend Raven that Matt had been spotted at a bar with another woman. He apparently left the bar with the woman that night.

Amber also heard from a fellow teacher at school Matt had asked another girl out on a date.

On "Decision Day," Amber and Matt mutually decided to get a divorce.

Matt apologized for treating Amber poorly, but she felt he was just mad and cold towards her.

In March 2020, Amber debuted a new boyfriend on Instagram.

"Happpppiest of birthdays to the kindest, most patient person I know. Our time has been an adventure, and I'm so thankful I get to be a part of it. #dreamteam," Amber captioned a March 8 gallery of photos showing off a tall, dark and handsome man.

"This is my boo," Amber replied to a follower who asked who the mystery guy was, ending the comment with a red-heart eyes smiley emoji.

"This picture is me and my boyfriend, he's the best!" she clarified for another still-confused follower.

"Heck yeah!" Amber also responded to an apparent friend who asked if they could set up a double date soon.

Hundreds of additional comments of support and encouragement also poured in from fans, telling Amber they are "so happy" for her and she "deserves the world" after her failed married to Matt, a former overseas professional basketball player.

However, by late 2020, Amber and her new beau appeared to have broken up and split.

In April 2020, Lifetime aired a Married at First Sight: Where Are They Now? special that provided updates on some of MAFS's former participants.

Amber and Matt appeared for an in-studio interview with host Kevin Frazier during the Where Are They Now? special, however the appearance became confrontational when Amber confronted Matt about his refusal to sign paperwork that would legally get the ball rolling on their divorce.

In an Instagram posting the following month, Amber revealed Matt was still refusing to sign any paperwork so she and her lawyer were now pursuing another legal option.

"So Matt actually never signed the divorce papers, but that's okay," Amber shared in her Instagram Stories.

"My lawyers [and I] are just going to pursue an absolute divorce and it's actually easier. I don't need a signature or anything."

"So my absolute divorce, without his signature, will be processed around July. So if quarantine is over, I say we do [my divorce party] in July or August."

In December 2020, Amber confirmed she and Matt had finally divorced.

"Did that a-hole let you get a divorce yet?!" a commenter asked on one of her Instagram postings.

"Yes finally!!!" Amber replied.

Three years later, Amber announced she was engaged to a new man!

"Love you forever, @k_lal," Amber captioned an Instagram carousel of photos from a recent vacation with her boyfriend Kevin -- including one which showed off a new diamond engagement ring.

Congratulatory messages then quickly poured in from the Married at First Sight family.

"Congrats Amber!!!" wrote Mindy Shiben.

Iris Caldwell commented, "My girl my girl my girl! I love this for you and have told you this from the beginning that everything happens how it's suppose to happen and I am so blessed to see this in action and am so happy for you both. Love ya girl..since day 1."

Noi Phommasak added, "Omg. Congratulations. So happy for you."

And Dr. Viviana Coles, a Married at First Sight expert, gushed, "So happy for y'all!"

Kevin, for his part, posted a similar photo with Amber on the beach and wrote, "I can't wait to marry my best friend! I love you."

Amber replied to Kevin's post, "I love you!!"

Amber and Kevin got engaged during a trip to Grenada.

"On the first date, he asked me my favorite place I've traveled [to] and I said Grenada, and ironically that's his favorite place too!" Amber shared with Us Weekly.

"He went to med school there! And we recently planned what I thought was a chill getaway to our favorite place and he proposed on our favorite beach."

She added, "I'm very, very excited and super in shock! I had no idea!"

Amber said she and Kevin had met on the dating app Hinge and dated for eight months before Kevin popped the question. And Kevin reportedly asked Amber's father for his permission to propose.

The couple's first date was to Amber's favorite pizza spot.
