The Amazing Race 20 (Courtesy Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
The Amazing Race 20 is the twentieth installment of the reality television show The Amazing Race. The Amazing Race 20 features eleven teams of two, each with a pre-existing relationship, in a race around the world.
The twentieth Race premiered on Sunday, February 19, 2012. It aired on CBS in the United States on Sunday nights at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT with the two-hour season finale on May 6, 2012. The show is hosted by Phil Keoghan.
Married couple Rachel and Dave Brown, Jr., were the winners of The Amazing Race 20. They also set a record on the American version of the show for winning the most legs in a single season, at eight.
Production
Development and filming
CBS renewed the series for its 20th season in June 16, 2011. This season spans a little over in twenty-two cities and five continents, with first-time visits to Paraguay and Azerbaijan. Visits to Argentina, Tanzania, Italy, and Germany are also confirmed for this season.Since the thirteenth season of the Amazing Race, teams were offered more than one Fast Forward on the race. Along with more than two of the them since the fourth season. This makes season 20 the most offered Fast Forwards since the previously stated reductions. Throughout the season, there was at three that were all used. Two of these teams had used these and had made it to the 'Final Three'.
In Leg 8, a new record was set for the Double U-Turn on this season. Both teams (Brendon & Rachel and Vanessa & Ralph) had survived the U-Turn and did not get eliminated.
During Leg 10, Bopper & Mark won the Fast Forward, yet were eliminated on the same leg; marking the second time in the show's history that this happened. (This last occurred to Dennis & Andrew on Leg 3 of season 3.)
Casting
The cast includes former Big Brother contestant Brendon Villegas and season 13 winner Rachel Reilly as well as Major League Soccer player Andrew Weber, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus clowns Dave and Cherie Gregg and professional golfer Maiya Tanaka who previously appeared on the Golf Channel's reality competition The Big Break. It also includes a pair of federal agents, United States Border Patrol agents, and dating divorcees.After the completion of the race, fan favorites William "Bopper" Minton and Mark Jackson were awarded a check for $10,000 from the hosts of the daytime talk show The Talk.
On September 8, 2012, Brendon & Rachel were married.

- ^ Rachel & Dave elected to use the Express Pass to bypass the Detour in Leg 3.
- ^ Rachel & Dave initially arrived 2nd, but were issued a 2-hour penalty for using up all of their allotted bottles at the Roadblock and not finishing the task. During this time, four teams checked in at the Pit Stop, dropping Rachel & Dave to 6th.
- ^ Leg 12 had two Roadblocks and no Detour. The team member who sat out the first Roadblock was required to perform the second one.
- ^ Rachel & Dave arrived at the Finish Line first, but did not complete the second Roadblock, having found the Finish Line by chance. They were required to turn back and complete the second Roadblock before being allowed to check in. This did not affect their placement as they still had checked in first and won.

- At the starting line, teams had to search through 100 balloons with baskets for one of eleven total clues to their next destination. Once they got a clue, they would be able to take one of the provided Ford Tauruses to Los Angeles International Airport where they would go to the American Airlines counter to get tickets to Buenos Aires' Ministro Pistarini International Airport. The first six teams would be given tickets to an earlier connecting flight to Salta's Martín Miguel de Güemes International Airport, after which they would have to drive to Santa Bárbara.
- Upon arriving at the Patios de Cafayate Winery, teams had to make 120 empanadas, 60 filled with meat and 60 filled with cheese; they were left to figure out that the two types had different crimping patterns. Once the proper quantity of empanadas was made correctly, the empanada champion would direct them to continue.
- After completing the empanada task, teams had to search the winery grounds for the Pit Stop.

- Upon arriving at Arusha Airstrip, teams signed up for one of three charter flights to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area the next morning.
- Upon landing in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, teams had to pick a driver and safari vehicle. They then had to ask local people for directions to the eastern edge of the Ngorongoro Crater where they would meet a Maasai warrior who would give them their next clue.
- Upon completing the Detour, teams had to direct their driver to the Simba Campsite along the crater's rim.
- Upon arrival at the Simba Campsite, teams had to set up a tent and campsite, including a bush shower, using all of the materials provided. Once done, they could proceed to the nearby Pit Stop, after which they would sleep in the campsite they had just built.

- Upon arriving in Honolulu, teams were only told to find the twins known as "Mauka" and "Makai", and left them to figure out that it referred to the twin Waterfront Towers in downtown Honolulu.
- At the Waterfront Towers, teams had to use mechanical ascenders to get to the top of Makai Tower. Once at the roof, teams then had to search for their next clue from the top of the tower. Once they identified the location of their next clue, they had to rappel face first (known as an "Angel Dive") down the other side of the tower to the ground.
- After the first Roadblock, teams had to find the baseball park on Sand Island where they would take a helicopter to their next location on Oahu's North Shore.
- After the helicopter ride, teams joined in a Surf Rescue team. One teammate would drive a WaveRunner out into the surf, and the other would rescue a distressed swimmer out of the water. Once they got back to shore, they would receive their next clue.
- After the WaveRunner task, teams had to follow a marked path in the Hakipuu Valley to find their next clue.
- After the second Roadblock, teams rode an ATV to a dock where they had to paddle surf to the Finish Line on Secret Island.

Canadian broadcaster CTV also airs The Amazing Race on Sundays. Episodes aired at 8:00 p.m. Eastern, Central, and Atlantic (9:00 p.m. Pacific and Mountain).
