The City is an MTV reality television series. The first spin-off of MTV's, The Hills, it follows one of the show's former cast members, Whitney Port, as she moves to New York City to work for fashion designer Diane von Fürstenberg. The program premiered on December 29, 2008 and concluded its first full season on December 1, 2009. The second season premiered on April 27, 2010 and concluded on July 13, 2010.

The show was revamped following a relatively unsuccessful first half-season. Most of the main characters were dropped, with the exception of Port and Olivia Palermo. At this time, the series saw the addition of two new main characters, Roxy Olin and Erin Kaplan, as well as several recurring characters. Whitney rejoined her former boss Kelly Cutrone at the public relations firm, People's Revolution, while Palermo joined the staff of Elle magazine.
