FOX has announced that in a classic cross-promotion move, "chart-topping recording artist and four-time Teen Choice Awards nominee" (oh, and "American Idol" winner too) Kelly Clarkson is set to perform at the "2003 Teen Choice Awards" on Wednesday, Aug. 6 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. The Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles will play host to the special, celebrating the hottest teen icons in film, television, music and sports.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that Justin Guarini, runner-up in the original "American Idol" series, was ticketed by Grand Prairie police Saturday afternoon after witnesses said he almost ran over a young girl with a personal watercraft at a local lake. According to the report, Justin, along with "Idol" winner Kelly Clarkson and a half dozen or so of their friends, had been taking turns riding the watercraft for most of the day when police cited Justin for "unsafe boat operation" after the early evening incident. The offense is punishable by a fine of up to $2,000 and a maximum 180 days in jail.

The final verdict is in, and it's not positive for the future acting careers of original American Idol finalists Kelly Clarkson and Justin Guarini. Their Fox movie From Justin to Kelly, which flopped on its opening weekend, has now become one of the year's biggest cinematic failures. The Associated Press reports that the second-weekend box-office totals for J2K place it merely 16th for the week, with a total box office of just $625,429 despite showing on 1969 screens.

The flop watch is over; for the first time, a project associated with Fox's smash hit television show American Idol has failed in the marketplace. According to the weekly box office charts from Exhibitor Relations, Co., the Idol-based movie From Justin to Kelly, one of three new releases for the June 20-22 weekend, failed to crack the box-office Top 10, with a total box office take of slightly less than $2.9 million.

The media blitz is underway for the first American Idol film, which opens Friday, June 20, and some surprising quotes have popped up along the way. TV Guide reports that Kelly Clarkson, the co-star of From Justin to Kelly (or J2K), has admitted that only fans of the show -- and of herself and co-star (and fellow finalist) Justin Guarini -- will enjoy the movie.

The Associated Press reports that Kelly Clarkson and Justin Guarini, the finalists in the first season of Fox's American Idol, described the filming of their upcoming movie as a "piece of cake." The movie, From Justin to Kelly (or J2K), went from concept to completed film in about 2.5 months, but neither Kelly nor Justin feel that they were under much pressure during filming.

The "buzz" surrounding the American Idol spinoff movie From Justin to Kelly, starring Kelly Clarkson and Justin Guarini (the final two from the first season of Idol), continues to signal deep trouble for the twice-delayed flick. The Website FilmJerk.com reports that Fox has declined to make a full theatrical trailer for the film's upcoming June 20 release. In addition, Fox has decided to scrub most of the promotional material that would normally be produced for a probable hit and will produce only a basic press kit, ad slickers and one poster.

The bad omens surrounding the American Idol spinoff movie From Justin to Kelly, starring initial Idol finalists Kelly Clarkson and Justin Guarini, continue. The New York Post reports that Fox has had to delay its plans to release the movie on video about six weeks after its theatrical opening (which has now been delayed to June 20) due to protests from theater owners.

Overlooked in all the success of Fox's American Idol and the solo singing careers of Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken is the forthcoming movie From Justin to Kelly, starring the winner and runner-up from the first Idol (Clarkson and Justin Guarini). Maybe it's been overlooked for a reason.
