CBS today formally announced what has been reported for months already, that eighteen former Survivor castaways, including four previous winners, will return to compete in Survivor: All-Stars. The eighth installment of the smash-hit series will premiere Sunday, February 1, immediately following CBS Sports’ coverage of Super Bowl XXXVIII.

CBS has announced that CBS News' The Early Show will officially reveal the identities of the eighteen new castaways of Survivor: All Stars on Monday, January 12 (7-9 AM, ET/PT).

We're sad to report that Carla Morasca, 48, of Bridgeville, Pennsylvania, died peacefully on Wednesday, November 19, 2003. Morasca was the mother of Jenna Morasca, the 22-year-old winner of this spring's Survivor: The Amazon series who frequently mentioned her mother's battle with cancer as one of her primary motivations for competing for the program's $1,000,000 grand prize.

CBS has announced that Survivor: All Stars, one of the most anticipated entertainment events of 2004, will premiere following CBS Sports' coverage of Super Bowl XXXVIII on Sunday, February 1, 2004.

Score one for the Web sleuths, we think. The Survivor spoiling/news sites Survivor News and Survivor Fever have both identified the 18 probable contestants in CBS's All-Star Survivor, which is currently filming in Panama. In addition, Survivor News claims to have the tribal breakdowns being used on the show.

During his press conference regarding the "ghost tribe" twist on Survivor: Pearl Islands, executive producer Mark Burnett also answered numerous questions about the upcoming Survivor All-Star edition ... or, usually, didn't answer them.

Interest in being a Survivor contestant still runs strong ... even among people who have already been contestants. The Associated Press reports that Jeff Probst, the show's host, has been receiving tapes from former castaways hoping to land a spot on the upcoming All-Star Survivor, which will air on CBS during winter/spring 2004.

The 'freakgirl' weblog reports that Survivor: The Amazon contestant Rob Cesterino stated, during the finale party for CBS's The Amazing Race 4, that the upcoming All-Star Survivor (also known as Survivor 8) will feature only individuals from the first four series of U.S. Survivor: Pulau Tiga, The Australian Outback, Africa and Marquesas.

The Pacific Daily News (in Guam), which previously reported the interest of CBS's Survivor in filming its upcoming "All-Star Survivor" edition this fall on the Pacific island paradise of Palau, now reports that delays in filming Survivor: Pearl Islands have forced CBS to end consideration of Palau as the next Survivor host site. According to an e-mail from the Survivor scout team leader, which was read by the Palau chief of staff, the filming of Pearl Islands (also known as Survivor 7) ran so far behind that the producers "may have to do another program right there in Panama."

The Orange County Register (free registration required) reports that some of the past champions from CBS's Survivor are balking at appearing in the upcoming "All-Star Survivor" edition (also known as Survivor 8) in a dispute over prize money. According to People magazine, the winners of Survivor: The Australian Outback, Tina Wesson, and Survivor: Africa, Ethan Zohn, have requested that executive producer Mark Burnett increase the announced $2 million first prize for the winner of the show.
