America's Next Top Model 9 - Episode 1 Summary'THE FUTURE' By Belinda Trotter-JamesOriginal Airdate: September 19, 2007
Okay, here we go... According to Tyra cycle 9 is the future of fashion. If I could see into the future I would not be able at this time to predict who will be America's Next Top Model. Miss J even said, "Come on you busted broke down models". Whoo-hoo, we are going to have a lot of ammunition to talk about this season. The opening scene shows Tyra calling all the girls to tell them they made it to the top 33. You can see them screaming as they received the phone call from Tyra. Hmmm, I wonder how the girls acted surprised to get the call from Tyra with Tyra's camera crew standing right in front of them to record all the excitement. Wow, I guess that's the magic of television. Anyway, all the girls were flown to San Juan, Puerto Rico to live on a cruise ship for one week. The first challenge was to work a runway wearing a big clunky, orange life vest. These vest are life savers in the water, however, on dry land, the girls were a mess as usual. While the girls were in an auditorium waiting for something to happen, the curtain on stage opens to reveal Tyra in a showgirl outfit performing an original ANTM song with some very handsome men. The girls started screaming wildly. Tyra wished all the girls luck after her performance and disappeared behind the curtain. Next was the interview scene with Jay, Miss J and Tyra. If you have watched the show since cycle one, we can always bet we will hear a homeless girl story, a foster child story, a stripper story, a mean girl story and a horrible disease story. Yup, it was all in there. And let's not forget the crier. This is usually the girl who is rude to everyone and thinks she is the next top model. She revealed through her tears a crack head story. I will not go into details about each girl's story because I don't feel like crying tonight and feeling depressed and blessed all in the same moment. This is not camp T-zone. They need to tell their sob stories in private or on a show where they can get help. If Tyra wants them to reveal such painful memories, she needs to make sure they get help in return for ratings. It's a win-win situation. Jay felt that the girls may be there to stomp away their pain and not to pursue a modeling career. What an idiot thing to say. Anyway...Tyra had one contestant walking like all types of bugs.. Butterfly, centipede, you name it. She had them dancing, singing and just having a good time. One contestant even gave Tyra a simulated kitty cat waxing. However, the two J's were on the side lines with their eyes rolled back in their heads. The next scene the girls were taken to the beach to do a swimsuit photo shoot. Who was in the water shooting but our very own winner from Cycle 8, who most of us have not seen since she won, Jasleen! She looked great as she told the girls how top model changed her life. She has been flying all over the world to do various assignments. (Hmmmm, really? We'll talk more about that later on this site.) At the shoot some of the girls looked as if they never had water in their faces. The expressions were ugly and gruesome. Lisa and Ebony stood out the most because their faces look great coming out of the water. From the 33 photos that were taken at the beach, only 20 girls were selected to move on in the competition. Then Tyra asked the remaining 20 girls to each say why they should stay in the competition. Thank goodness we did not have to sit through 20 tearful contestants vying for Tyra's sympathy. The final elimination took place poolside which I thought was a little dangerous. I'm not saying that the eliminated girls may hurt themselves, but you don't want anyone fainting and falling in the pool because they did not make it in the house. Sheeesh! Well, Jaylee, please give us your commentary. What did you think of the show? "I think this is going to be the year of the house with the mouth. There are three girls that I think were kept on the show because they will start trouble and make the show interesting. I'm talking about Bianca, Ebony and Saleisha. They are not on the show because they could possibly be top models...Ha! As I was looking for Sarah, the plus size contestant, I could not find her in the promo photos. Either the girls should be skinny or full. Anything in between is not good for the show. Don't call her plus size if she looks more skinny than full... Done!"
