America's Next Top Model 2 - Episode 3 Summary

'The “Crying” Episode' By Isabelle Murray
Original Airdate: January 27, 2004

After being almost out of the competition last week, super-shy-girl (Shandi) decides that she does not want to go just yet and practices her walk.  She really improved but then again she needed a lot of improvement.  After super-shy-girl (Shandi) is done, super-American-dudette (Catie) goes on the “runway” and tries to impress the other girls.  Another girl comments on how super-American-dudette (Catie) seeks attention constantly.

Then, we see all the girls happily chatting in groups of two or three but super-cheerleader-like-girl (Heather), is all by herself.  She comments on how everyone has friends or talk to each other but she is all alone.  She even thinks that people are avoiding her on purpose and that, when she tries to speak, they ignore her.  She says also that it’s the first time that she’s ever been far away from home and it’s hard and you get the picture.  She was kind of crying while saying all that.  She definitely cried when she called her mom.

The girls have Tyra mail.  They are to go at a certain address the next day for makeovers.  When they arrive there, they learn that their hair will be changed, some will have their teeth whitened, and they will all get makeup lessons.  Super-shy-girl (Shandi) will have platinum blonde hair; super-American-dudette (Catie) will have shorter hair; super-fake-girl (Camille) will have her braids taken out; super-Zen-girl (Yoanna) will have a modern Mohawk; super-frizzy-girl (Mercedes) will have extensions; super-Persian-girl (Sara) will be turned into a blonde; super-short-girl (Jenascia) will have her hair shortened to match her height (she wasn’t too pleased that the height thing came up again); super-Asian-chick (April) will get bangs; super-cool-black-dudette (Xiomara) had like a different color; and super-cheerleader-like-girl (Heather) had hair just plain blonder.  Super-cheerleader-like-girl (Heather) was very disappointed in what they planned on doing to her for many reasons:  1) she thought that it was kind of typical of what was happening to her in the house (i.e., not much) and 2) she was afraid that, if people saw that, they would think that she cannot change.

So they proceed with the makeovers.  Most are happy.  However, super-American-dudette (Catie) was definitely NOT happy.  They thought that she reminded them of Twiggy so they changed her hair to resemble Twiggy.  It is now VERY short and platinum blonde.  She cried and cried.  Tyra told her that it’s normal to be a bit taken aback at first because it is a big change but that it looks neat and she will get used to it.  Nothing worked.  When they arrived at home, she was still crying and called her boyfriend.  He asked her if it looked that bad and she said “yes”.  He asked her whether she had had compliments on it and she had to answer “yes” because she did so her boyfriend told her that it might not be as bad as she thought.

At the house, super-cheerleader-like-girl (Heather) says that super-Zen-girl (Yoanna) is different and cares a bit more for her and she’s happy about it.  For instance, we see super-Zen-girl warn super-cheerleader-like-girl that she is not eating well, etc.

The girls get some more Tyra mail.  It is kind of a cryptic message in that it says that they should be ready to “beat their faces and beat the time.”  One of the girls concludes that it will be a makeup test against the clock.  Well, she is right.  The next day, super-makeup-dude (Jay Manuel) welcomes them to a contest.  The previous day, he had given them makeup lessons and now he wants to see how much they learned.  He showed them a picture of Tyra without makeup and one of Tyra with “smoky eyes”.  The girls have to do the smoky eyes effect on their own.  The winner will get to have a special dinner for her and three surprise guests.  The losers will have to cook and serve dinner for the winner.  There is a catch, though:  they only have one mirror, one set of brushes, and one pallet of colors.

The girls get ready and it’s a race to the mirror.  Super-Zen-girl (Yoanna) says to the camera “Surprise, surprise, surprise!  Miss Cruella deVille (that’s her nickname for super-fake-girl, i.e., Camille) is first to the mirror!”  After the allotted time, super-makeup-dude (Jay Manuel) comments on their technique.  He then tells them that none of them have really done a perfect job but the closest is super-Zen-girl (Yoanna) who wins.  She gets to choose 3 friends to have dinner with.  So, she chooses super-Persian-girl (Sara) and super-cool-black-dudette (Xiomara).  She then learns that she gets to choose another girl and she hesitates but chooses super-Asian-chick (April).  Super-cheerleader-like-girl (Heather) is really disappointed.  She thought that she was closer to super-Zen-girl than any of the other girls and it was made worse by the fact that super-Zen-girl looked at her first for the last choice and THEN chose that other girl (well, it wasn’t that obvious but maybe she really felt that way).

All the while, super-shy-girl (Shandi) explains to us that she was feeling increasingly hot.  Well, she passes out.  Girls come to the rescue, give her water, and help her.  Super-shy-girl (Shandi) realizes that she has not eaten well lately and lacked a lot of sleep so she is going to work on that to not repeat the incident.

Super-Zen-girl (Yoanna) is really happy of one thing:  super-fake-girl (Camille) will have to cook the meal for her and her guests.  Well, the mystery guests arrive and it is the three male models from the nude photo shoot.  Super-Zen-girl asks them all sorts of questions regarding how they made it in the industry, etc.  During the dinner, super-Zen-girl asks super-American-dudette (Catie) if she could have some more salad (she was responsible for the salad).  The way that super-Zen-girl said it was really…  commanding…  it was kinda weird.  Anyway, super-American-dudette (Catie) complies but, to do this, she uses the lettuce and tomatoes that belonged to super-fake-girl (Camille) who throws a fit over this.  Super-American-dudette apologizes, saying she didn’t know they were hers, and offers to go buy some more that very night.  Still, super-fake-girl is still bitching about it, saying that she has this routine and…  boring!

Super-cheerleader-like-girl (Heather) is still bummed that super-Zen-girl (Yoanna) did not choose her.  So she leaves with super-American-dudette (Catie) to get the damn lettuce and tomatoes.  And they talk and they kind of bond so super-cheerleader-like-girl is happy because she found a friend (she really needs a friend desperately, it seems!).
