America's Next Top Model 4 - Episode 7 Summary

'The 'Acting' Episode' By Isabelle Murray
Original Airdate: April 13, 2005

The girls go to a restaurant owned by Ashton Kutcher.  It seems to be quite fancy.  Super-reformed-girl (Tiffany) feels somewhat like a fish out of water in that restaurant.  She doesn’t know most of the food that is brought to them.  For instance, she’s quite hesitant to try sushi because it’s raw fish and she doesn’t eat anything raw.  She’s trying but you can see that, even before she takes a bite, she has decided that she wasn’t going to like it.

Back at the loft, they have Tyra mail.  They arrive at a studio where they meet an acting coach.  They will have to learn about accents and such.  The coach says funky stuff that sounds like nothing intelligible (for real) and the girls have to repeat what he’s saying.  Some girls seem to be totally thrown back by this.  Anyway, he gives them lines that they will have to learn for the next day.

Super-wrestling-dudette (Michelle) is quite happy that they will get to act because she took 4 years of drama school.  Super-Meg-Ryan-like-girl (Kahlen) has a hard time memorizing the lines and is quite discouraged by that.  Super-reformed-girl (Tiffany) is disappointed because she knows that she doesn’t talk like the other girls and she’s scared that it’s going to affect her performance in the end.  So she calls her grandmother who says that it’s perfectly okay for her not to speak like the other girls and that she doesn’t have to.  Super-reformed-girl is still worried but somewhat comforted, nevertheless.

The next day, the girls arrive at the studio again and they learn that they will do their scene with a special guest:  real-life actor Boris Kodjoe.  Both super-reformed-gril (Tiffany) and super-social-girl (Keenyah) blush and laugh like little girls at the sight of the lovely actor.  On to the test…  Of course, the girls forget a bunch of lines.  Some are good, others are bad, as can be expected.  Super-funky-girl (Naima) went for a flirtatious tone to her scene, which Boris liked quite a bit.  However, he seemed to be disappointed by super-reformed-girl, as she sounded more like a girl from a plantation than the accent that they were supposed to do.  Actually, when he gave the results to the girls, all he could say about super-reformed-girl was “Love the hat.”  Ouch!  Surprisingly (or not), super-wrestling-dudette’s (Michelle) performance was not as good as what one would expect from someone who has had 4 years of drama school.  The poor thing, though, thought that this challenge was in the bags for her…

After all girls receive their comments, a winner for this challenge is named:  once again, it’s super-funky-girl (Naima).  She needs to pick 2 friends and they will all get 10,000$ worth of diamonds!  Whoa!  Super-funky-girl chooses super-wrestling-dudette and super-exotic-girl (Tatiana).  The three girls to go a bank-type place and there is this huge vault, like in a movie.  They open the vault and the girls get to choose among like 4-5 pieces of jewelry.  Awesome!

Some more Tyra mail.  Apparently, “feathers will fly.”  Cryptic as usual.  Well, the girls arrive at the location for the photo shoot and the theme is pillow fight with boyfriend… they have a male model posing with them.  Oh and he was only wearing like boxers.  So we guess that they won’t be wearing much more.  Of course not!  It’s a lingerie photo shoot but it’s for WonderBra.  The hard thing this time is that they have a lot going on:  they need to pretend that the male model is their boyfriend so they need to interact with him; feathers are flying everywhere so that’s hard too; they need to be showcasing (so to speak) the bra so they need to be turned a certain way at the camera; and they need to still be sexy without looking like a porn star.  Super-Reese-like-girl (Rebecca) is not too pleased with this photo shoot:  she has a fiancé and she doesn’t really want to be that close to another guy.  Super-Meg-Ryan-like-girl (Kahlen) also finds it hard but for another reason:  she has never really had a boyfriend so she is a bit shy at the thought of interacting with a semi-nude guy.  When it’s super-wrestling-dudette’s (Michelle) turn, they let the male model know that she is a wrestler so he tries to wrestle with her but he says that she basically had him pinned down for the whole shoot.

It’s judging time again.  This week, the guest judge is Boris Kodjoe, the actor from their scene.  The test this week will be a cold-read from a teleprompter and the girls are pretending that they are like fashion correspondents reporting from Paris’s Fashion Week.  Of course, this being a cold-read and all, they threw in some weird words in there, or at least words that are funky if you read fast; for example:  magenta, chartreuse, and designer names like Christian Lacroix and Hermes.  So the girls read their thing and no one nails it.

When it’s super-reformed-girl’s (Tiffany) turn, she starts to read but when she sees the first weird word (which was “magenta”, for the record), she stops reading and says that she can’t do this.  Super-judge-ex-top-model (Janice Dickinson) exclaims “Sure you can!”  But super-reformed-girl looks like she doesn’t want to continue on.  Tyra then tells her that all the other girls screwed up badly but they did it anyway so she certainly could.  The way that super-reformed-girl hesitated made me think, for a little bit of time, as if she was going to reveal that she can’t read or something.  But no, she just didn’t want to do it.  Tyra asks her if she wants to go home because, if she doesn’t read the text, she’s going home.  So, super-reformed-girl takes a deep breath and starts reading again.  She screws up, like all the other girls, but she manages to do a good performance.  However, as she is leaving, she mumbles (rather loudly) that it was one more humiliating thing and that it’s always like that.  You can see Tyra making a face at that.
