America's Next Top Model 7 - Episode 3 Summary

'Who's The Face Behind The Hair' By Belinda Trotter-James
Original Airdate: September 27, 2006

Who are these wannabe models?  Who cast this crop of babies? This show was all about the hair and the contestants cried all the way to the bank.  They are finally here and cannot hear the directions given to them to succeed.

“I wish someone would have given me a makeover when I first started,” says Mr. Jay.  Each season we have to sift through girls who only thought about modeling when it was time for Top Model auditions.  That’s why week after week we painfully watch bad photo shoots.  Eugena had the nerve to say that last season’s show was boring.  However, she has not delivered one good photo.  Jaeda says everyone says she is pretty.  That may get you on the train at no cost, but just being pretty will not land you a top model job.

Tyra may be trying to find raw talent to mold into a super model; however, this is just wearing me out.  All the girls are showing signs of low self-esteem and will not pull away from the pack to take the lead.  Now let’s talk about what happened on the show…

Every season Tyra transforms the girls with a makeover.  If you know this then why aren’t you mentally prepared to have your hair cut or colored?  If you know this is the industry of makeovers and models become a human canvas, then why all the drama when it’s makeover time.  Each season we get one girl who does not want her hair cut or colored.  This season at least half of the girls did not like their makeover. AJ complained that the color was too light and she thinks she looks better with dark hair.  The twins did not know how to work their shades of red hair color.  Sheesh!  It’s only hair color.  They did not get a dramatic cut.  What’s the big deal?  Color it back to your original color when you are kicked off the show… Sheesh!

Jaeda had a melt down when they cut all her hair off.  Hours earlier, she said to Mr. Jay, “I have good hair.  It grows back fast.”  Hah, Hah.  Manifestation comes from the words that come out of your mouth.  We are being tested all the time, so watch what you say to yourself and others.  Melrose did not want to be a blonde-haired model and Monique did not appreciate having little to no change at all.

Moments later, we see Monique in the bathroom crying because she did not want anyone to see her without her weave…. I think that’s why she was crying… Sheesh.  Are these girls’ babies or what?  How dare they insult top hairstylist Fredrick Fekki... They never looked so good.  I don’t know what else to say….

“I do.  It’s  Dalia and I have plenty to say…I am always a drama queen when it comes to getting my hair cut, however I am not going into the modeling industry.  This industry changes your appearance constantly.  These girls knew from day one that the makeover show happens in the first or second show.  Jaeda should own her new cut. She looks great.  Anyway, I am lost with this show.  There was no real focus.  Last year’s winner, Danielle is boring in her Cover Girl commercial.  She has no personality; the go see with the magazine editor feels scripted and just does not work for me.  Why does Danielle only have one boring commercial?  I have nothing more to say for this week.  Maybe next week will be better. Back to you Belinda.”

Okay… The next challenge took place in an elevator.  Each time the elevator stopped on a different floor, the girls had 30 seconds to get items to put together a fashion look with makeup, shoes, dresses and accessories.  If they miss the elevator in the time allotted for each floor, they are eliminated from the challenge.  Megg missed the elevator at the very beginning of the challenge.  Monique missed the second elevator and was pissed.

All the girls agreed that Monique would probably take her anger out on them back at the house.  She did not disappoint the girls and was a complete bitch. Not half a bitch, but a complete bitch package. (More about that later.)  After completing their Cover Girl makeover, Queen Latifah steps in the room to select a winner.  Eugena ends up winning the challenge and selected two girls to share the prize.  I don’t know what the queen saw in Eugena because she has the worse case of blotchy skin.  Maybe my television screen was distorted because she did not look like a Cover Girl winner to me.  AJ should have won the challenge.

Back at the house, all hell broke loose with Monique because she did not get a chance to finish the challenge and meet Queen Latifah.  She rambled on the phone with her mother for three and a half hours totally disrespecting the other girl’s telephone time.  Monique’s mom also encouraged her daughter’s disrespect of the house.  Monique is a diva in the house, but when it comes to being a diva in front of the camera, she is a mere nasty attitude amateur with a pretty face.

The next challenge was a big-hair wig shoot.  It was the war of the hair.  There is a competition that takes place each year where hairstylists from all around the country create pieces of art with hair.  These master hairstylists came up with designs for all the girls to see who can shine through all the hair.  Monique’s photo did not deliver; Eugena did not want to take direction from the photographer. Tyra said it looked like Eugena was sleep with her eyes open and delivered amateur shots.  Meg’s posture was terrible.  Jaeda got lost in her hair and the shoot was painful to watch.  The other girls did well on the shoot.

Low self-esteem and telling Tyra their every thought is going to be the downfall of the contestants.  It is a big mistake to get too comfortable with Tyra and tell her too much about your thoughts and feelings.  Jaeda told Tyra that she was not feeling her new haircut and Tyra did not want to hear it.  “Maybe you should go home and count the days till your hair grows back,” snapped Tyra.   Tyra is absolutely correct, but lucky for her, the judges see some potential and did not vote her out.  Megan and Jaeda were in the bottom two and Megan went home.

Who will be America’s Next Top Model?  Who will step up their game next week… tune in and send your comments to    Modeldigest@aol.com or visit my website at www.Moddelmaterialonline.com
