Candice Leigh Cody (née Woodcock; born November 12, 1982) is an American doctor best known for her three appearances on the reality television show Survivor.

Biography

Candice Woodcock graduated from Terry Sanford High School in 2001, where she was president of her class and captain of the soccer and cross country teams. She received a perfect score on the math portion of her SATs. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on the Morehead-Cain Scholarship in 2005 with a double major in biology and psychology and a minor in chemistry.

She was inspired to do service work in Africa upon watching Survivor: Africa - spending almost 3 months living in a mud hut with a tribal family. She also taught primary and secondary school in Africa, and created her own service project where she managed a clinic that distributed over 700 pairs of eyeglasses. Later, she became a fund raising director and then executive director of Students for Students International at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Apart from doing humanitarian activities, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, working out, playing sports, being in the water, and playing with her dogs.

Candice also spent a summer studying health care in Chile and Peru and another summer splitting her time between work at the Cancer Clinic at George Washington University Hospital and La Clinica del Pueblo, a free Latino clinic in Washington, D.C.

She currently resides in Washington D.C. She received her MS in physiology from Georgetown University and then graduated from the medical school at George Washington University. On May 1, 2010, Candice Woodcock married her fiance, John Cody. Their wedding was postponed in order for Candice to appear on Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains, which filmed in 2009.

Survivor

Candice had applied once before for Survivor: Panama and had made it as a semi-finalist, but did not make the final cut. She was then put into the running for the 13th season, and was subsequently cast for Survivor: Cook Islands, where she was the 13th person voted out and the 5th member of the jury, placing 8th out of 20.

Cook Islands

Candice was a contestant on the thirteenth season of the reality television show Survivor. She was an original member of the Rarotonga tribe, but when the four tribes were absorbed into two, she became a part of the Aitutaki tribe. In Episode 3, Candice was sent to Exile Island, but she managed to fly under the radar on the "Aitu" tribe while maintaining an alliance with Yul Kwon, Becky Lee, and Jonathan Penner. She also proved her physical strength when she dominated the "Kicking & Screaming" challenge in Episode 6, allowing her tribe to win a grand feast. Although she held a solid alliance within the Aitu tribe, she accepted an offer of mutiny (along with Jonathan Penner) in Episode 9 and re-joined the Rarotonga tribe. Because of her mutiny, she was considered a traitor and was very disliked by her former Aitu tribemates, and they would send her to Exile Island at every opportunity.

Although it was widely speculated that Candice switched tribes because she wanted to be reunited with Adam Gentry, a Rarotonga tribe member and her romantic interest on the island, Candice has stated that she mutinied because she "thought it was the right move at the time". In many interviews, she claimed that she was "near the bottom of the totem pole" at Aitu, but while at Raro, she said that she could manipulate her allies Parvati Shallow, Adam Gentry, and Nathan Gonzalez (whom Woodcock had made a secret pact with while he was kidnapped at Aitu camp, confirming her spot in the Raro alliance) to get herself further in the game. Her plan backfired, however, and her new tribe lost all of the challenges thereafter, which led Candice to experience very bad luck and left the remaining "Aitu 4" to dominate the game. Candice was voted off in a 5-3 vote in Episode 12, after Jonathan Penner betrayed the Raro alliance because Yul Kwon had the Hidden Immunity Idol. During her 30 days on the show, Candice was sent to Exile Island 4 times.

Two years later, she was asked to compete on Survivor: Micronesia, but declined due to obligations with medical school. She returned to the show in 2010 to compete on the show's 20th anniversary season, Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains.

Heroes vs. Villains

Candice was a contestant in the 20th season of the show titled Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains as a member of the "Heroes" tribe. This was a surprise to viewers, because when she participated in Cook Islands, she was edited to look like a villainess when she mutinied against the Aitutaki Tribe. However, Jeff Probst said that Candice was put onto the Heroes tribe because of her bravery and loyalty to her original Rarotonga tribe during her mutiny that season.

Candice was an outsider on the Heroes tribe, claiming that no one wanted to align with her (except those who were voted off early) and that she was just "another vote". She said that she was forced to fight to stay each day, and felt uncomfortable and alone throughout her stay with the Heroes. After the merge, she flipped over to the Villains' alliance once James "J.T." Thomas, Jr. was voted out and even voted against a fellow Hero, Amanda Kimmel.

She was voted out in Episode 12 out after Jerri Manthey, Sandra Diaz-Twine, Colby Donaldson and Rupert Boneham decided to vote her out because they no longer needed her. Russell Hantz was against this, but still voted her out. In the final jury, Candice voted for Diaz-Twine (who eventually won), stating that it is ultimately down to "how you treat people and what you fall for", and saying Diaz-Twine "always stayed true to yourself, and that makes you a true hero to me."

Blood vs. Water

Candice competed on Survivor for a third time on the show's 27th season, Survivor: Blood vs. Water, alongside her husband John. The Codys replaced Survivor: Philippines contestant Roberta "RC" Saint-Amour, and her father, Craig; this pair was pulled from the game the day before filming began due to Craig having high blood pressure. In a twist, Cody was voted out on Day 1 and sent to Redemption Island to compete against other eliminated contestants in order to return to the game. After winning against her first three opponents, she was defeated in the show's fifth episode by former NFL footballer Brad Culpepper and left the game in 16th place.
