Evelyn was an 18-year-old from Claremont, NH and David was a 27-year-old from Granada, Spain when he arrived in America on a K-1 visa.. They both came from religious Christian families and were saving themselves for marriage.

The couple met after David saw the Facebook page for Evelyn's band, and he decided to send her a message.

Despite David's objections to living in a small town, they got married in Boston in October 2017 and currently reside in Claremont.

In 2018, Evelyn auditioned for Season 17 of American Idol, which premiered on ABC in March 2019.

"I auditioned for @americanidol Tune in to @abcnetwork on March 3rd to see what happened," she wrote in a December 15 posting on Instagram.

When American Idol determined its Season 17 Top 20 finalists in January, Evelyn was one of only nine girls to make the cut for the Top 20 group.

Evelyn also made the Idol season's Top 14 finalists, which were determined by the show's judges and filmed in March.

However, she was eliminated on the season's April 15 broadcast, which determined which Top 14 finalists would advance to the competition's Top 10.

In September 2019, Evelyn and David announced they were moving to Los Angeles for her music career.

"David and I have decided that we think it's best for both of us if we move to L.A., guys! My apartment here is empty," Evelyn said in an Instagram video announcing the move.

"Tomorrow morning, David is driving across country with all of our stuff in a car to Los Angeles, California. It's just the next step in my career. I think it's going to be really fun and I'm really excited about what's next," she continued.

"I'm going to be back and forth to the East Coast a few times, the next few months, because I have shows, but I am flying out to L.A. to live there this Saturday! So that's my big news!"

In November 2021, Evelyn announced that she and David were getting divorced.

Afterward, Evelyn accused her estranged husband of "mental and emotional abuse" in their marriage.

"I've endured mental and emotional abuse because of a passionless, sexless and narcissistic relationship," Evelyn told In Touch magazine.

"This is a good reminder that not everything you see on social media is reality."

Evelyn added, "This is a very difficult time for me and there is a long road of healing ahead, but I'm trusting God and the plan He has for me."

David "completely" denied "those accusations" in a statement of his own.

However, David wouldn't get into detail about his side of the story.

"God knows the truth about all our marital problems," David said. "Out of respect to our marriage that lasted four years, I wish not to disclose any more details."

A judge finalized the former couple's divorce in April 2022.

Evelyn shared some additional details of her allegations in an episode of 90 Day Diaries that aired on TLC in May 2022 and showed her living back home with her parents in rural New Hampshire following her split from David.

"I really didn't like living in L.A. David couldn't understand why I missed my home so much, and that caused a lot of friction for us," Evelyn explained.

"David always wanted things to be his way and he was very controlling towards me, and I was silenced so often with my opinions and thoughts and feelings -- like they weren't valid."

Evelyn went as far as to add, "There were days when I felt like I couldn't even get out of bed because I felt so hopeless for my future."

Evelyn said she felt like she could not divorce David under any circumstances, but explained how there are Biblical reasons that would allow a person to get divorced and there are some things that would make it acceptable.

Evelyn said her church was supportive and so she returned home to New Hampshire and filed for divorce from David.

"I have no plans of leaving New Hampshire. This is where I will live forever, hopefully," Evelyn told her loved ones.

Evelyn also claimed that she knew "immediately" upon marrying David that she had made a mistake.

Her divorce was still processing when she filmed the 90 Day Diaries footage, but she said it would be finalized the following month.

Living back in Evelyn's parents' house was a big adjustment, but she said her parents totally supported her divorce from David. Evelyn's family also seemed to agree that Los Angeles wasn't the best place for Evelyn.
