Marcelino wrote to Brittany on meet-an-inmate.com following a devastating breakup.
After a couple of prison visits Marcelino fell deeply in love with the 27-year-old, who had spent almost a decade behind bars for several crimes.
Although the two had never spent a day with each other on the outside, they planned to marry as soon as Brittany completed her recent prison stint of two years for conspiracy to commit burglary.
Marcelino and Brittany encountered a few relationship issues after she was released from prison -- including her relationship with Amanda, Brittany's former girlfriend from prison.
In addition, Brittany also began reconnecting with her young son Giovanni, who was in the custody of her ex Tito Santana.
But the couple's biggest surprise probably came when Brittany learned she was pregnant with Marcelino's child! While Brittany was worried about Marcelino's reaction to the unexpected pregnancy, he said he was "ecstatic" and "overjoyed" and looking forward to becoming a dad when he learned the news.
Afterward, Marcelino proposed to Brittany during a trip to Las Vegas, and the couple got married in Love After Lockup's Season 2 finale about five months after Brittany's release from prison.
An update provided at the end of the Season 2 finale stated Brittany and Marcelino later had a healthy baby girl they named Zoila and were moving into a new home in Las Vegas.
In short, everything seemed to be going well for the couple! However in May 2019, Brittany's ex Tito reportedly made a Facebook posting in which he alleged Brittany and Marcelino had kidnapped their now four-year-old son and he didn't know his current location.
Brittany and Marcelino subsequently made social-media postings of their own in which they denied Tito's kidnapping allegation and insisted Giovanni was fine.
Both parties then filed court documents seeking sole custody of Giovanni, launching a custody battle that may be shown on Love After Lockup's currently-airing Love After Lockup: Life After Lockup spinoff, includes Brittany and Marcelino in its cast.
According to Starcasm, Tito's court filing claims the alleged kidnapping occurred after Tito and Marcelino had a heated argument on April 30 while filming a scene for Love After Lockup: Life After Lockup. Tito had allegedly dropped Giovanni off with Brittany two days before the incident.
The filing reportedly claims Marcelino "showed up and tauntingly announced to [Tito] -- with cameras rolling -- that Brittany was going to get 'full custody' of Giovanni."
Tito then allegedly left the location and contacted Brittany, who claimed to know nothing about Marcelino's comments and said it was just "fake" for the show. However, Brittany then allegedly stopped answering Tito's calls and was no longer at her last known address.
But Brittany's filing reportedly claims the incident only become a heated argument when Tito got "agitated" after Marcelino "expressed dissatisfaction" about Tito's "prolonged lack of contact" with Giovanni.
Tito then allegedly punched Marcelino in the mouth, cutting his lip, and took off.
Brittany and Marcelino's filing also reportedly makes numerous other allegations against Tito -- including that Tito's girlfriend once shaved Giovanni's head in an attempt to upset Brittany, that Giovanni lived with Brittany's father for a year while she was in prison, that Tito had already basically given Brittany full custody of their son and didn't see him for three months after she initially moved in with Marcelino, and that Tito had let Giovanni be "mauled" by an exotic pet during a week-long stay at his home in August 2018.
Tito allegedly did not take Giovanni for medical treatment after the attack by Tito's genet, a cat-like exotic pet, resulting in infected wounds.
After the attack, Brittany's filing reportedly claims that Tito didn't attempt to spend any time with Giovanni during the next seven months or so, until March 2019, when he resumed "limited and sporadic contact."
A custody hearing has reportedly been scheduled for August 6, with Brittany and Tito agreeing to temporary joint legal custody until then.
