Despite having only spent about 30 hours together within the confines of a prison visiting room, Caitlin was convinced Matt was her destiny, and the two had big plans of getting married, having babies, finding a home and starting a life together.

However, they still had no idea what it was like to be together on the outside -- including being intimate.

While Caitlin and Matt wasted little time becoming intimate after he was released from prison -- they had sex in the woods shortly after Caitlin picked him up from prison -- they struggled to build their relationship in other ways.

Matt seemed uninterested in getting a job and appeared content living with his mother, who had agreed to let Caitlin and Matt live with her after his release.

Things eventually came to a head when Matt got arrested again for possession of a stolen vehicle. Although Caitlin bailed Matt out, she said there was a possibility he could get another 20 years in prison and she wasn't going to be "a prison wife."

The pair then got into a fight, and Caitlin left Matt. Caitlin realized she needed to get out of the relationship and start living life for herself. She was hurt and felt she had tried everything she possibly could to make it work.

"Essentially what's happening is Matt and I are ending," Caitlin told the cameras.

Matt agreed he was done with Caitlin as well, and then she left his mother's house. Matt was sad to say goodbye, but things clearly weren't working out between them. There was no way they were ready to get married, and Caitlin's idea of a fairy tale just didn't exist.

Caitlin planned to learn from her relationship, and she felt she had become a stronger woman because of her time with Matt.

An update provided at the end of the Season 2 finale stated Caitlin and Matt have remained still broken up and Matt was living with a new girlfriend while awaiting trial.

However, Matt has continued to rack up additional legal problems since Love After Lockup's second season concluded filming.

In May 2019, Matt was arrested and charged with methamphetamine possession after he was pulled over and discovered to driving a vehicle with expired tags with a suspended license, Starcasm reported.

Prior to the January 2019 incident in which Matt was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle, Matt was also reportedly got into two December 2018 car accidents in which he rear-ended other vehicles while driving Caitlin's pickup truck.

According to the police reports, Matt was driving the truck despite knowing his license was suspended and the vehicle had steering and brake issues. He was given a criminal citation for driving with a suspended license and a ticket for speeding.

After Love After Lockup's Season 2 finale aired in March 2019, Caitlin also confirmed she had remained in touch with Matt's mom.

"I've had a lot of people asking me if I still talk to 'Matt’s mom'," she wrote on Instagram.

"As a matter of fact, I sure do! KATHY has been a SAINT from the beginning of all of this. None of any of this has been easy for any of us involved, this wonderful woman has done nothing but offer unconditional love and support, asking for nothing in return."
