Unlike the rest of the couples on Love After Lockup, Mary and Dominic actually met before he went to prison. However, shortly after they met, Dominic got into a fight at a Toronto night club and subsequently began serving six years in prison for aggravated assault.
But Mary patiently remained by his side, waiting to pick up where they left off.
Love After Lockup's first season showed Dominic being released from prison and reuniting with Mary, and moving into a halfway hour that he was required to live in as a condition as his release.
And in the season finale, Love After Lockup viewers saw Dominic and Mary get married on a ship docked on the Toronto waterfront.
During a Love After Lockup: Where Are They Now? special that aired on WE tv in November 2018, Andrea and Dominic revealed they were still together, although Dominic admitted the relationship had came pretty close to ending when he was first released from prison.
After spending six months living in the halfway house, Dominic was finally able to move out and the couple began renting their own place together. Due to his probation restrictions, Dominic still couldn't drink alcohol, and Mary admitted that while she stood by Dominic while he was in prison, she wouldn't date an inmate again.
According to a social-media posting from Mary, Dominic got a job working "full-time as an iron worker making a great income" after his release.
Mary and Dominic renewed their wedding vows in front of their family and friends in October 2018 in Kitchener, Ontario. And after the vow renewal, they finally had the big wedding reception Mary always wanted.
In April 2019, Mary also publicly expressed her frustration that she and Dominic would not be part of Love After Lockup's new Love After Lockup: Life After Lockup spinoff.
"Proof they don't want to show a REAL, couple who made it! And still continues to shine and do well! Exact proof they are only here for drama, drug addicts and toothless losers," she tweeted after WE tv announced the spinoff's cast.
The following day, she also continued her thoughts in a lengthy Instagram posting.
"I make it a rule to never post when angry... that being said, yesterday an announcement was made that Love After Lockup would be airing Love After Lockup: Life After Lockup as a spin-off series to the original show. Like you... I also found this news out online. After working with our production team for years (three and counting), I would have expected to find this news out from them directly, which is frustrating and disappointing to say the least as we were continuously strung along," Mary wrote.
"Dominic and I will not be involved with Life After Lockup. It seems as though our story and image does not align with the direction of the franchise. We chose to do Season 1 of Love After Lockup to end the stereotypes of incarcerated relationships and shed a new light on our relationship proving that real people, who are educated, come from good families, have good jobs and are genuine can be in these types of relationships."
"[However,] if you have watched the show, it is fairly apparent that Love After Lockup aims to portray a less than flattering image of those of us who are coming home from prison or have stood by an inmate during their incarceration. It would seem [the] show showcases people suffering from drug addition, mental illness, or other various problems," she continued.
"I was initially under the impression that the series was meant to showcase those of us who don’t fit the assumed 'prison couple' image and never imagined that the show would involve this caliber of individuals and their stories. For this reason I am thrilled to not be associated with the show or associated with or compared to the other cast members and their stories."
