Nolan Neal went into the "Battle Round" a little bit intimidated and a little bit confused, but at the end of the day, he made it through to The Voice's next round.

Nolan, a 35-year-old from Nashville, TN, and Johnny Rez, a 25-year-old from Miami, FL, were paired up by Adam Levine to sing "Sledgehammer."

During his vocal lessons, Nolan asked to scream one big note in the song, but other than that, his liberties were restricted.

"I thought that would maybe be the only moment I could shine, because Adam Levine and Sammy Hagar said, 'You can't improvise on this song, because Peter Gabriel already did all the improvising for you,'" Nolan told Reality TV World.

"So they basically say, 'Make the song yours,' but at the same time, 'Don't make the song yours." So, you know, I did the best I could do."

Nolan didn't seem to stress much about his Battle against Johnny.

"My strategy was just to try my best to not look weird standing there without a guitar and to pray that the [cameras] would cut off of me every time I was not singing," Nolan said with a laugh.

It was extremely difficult for Adam to have to choose between the two artists, as the coach confessed they both captured the spirit of the song and it wasn't really fair to eliminate one of them.

"I knew that Johnny was a Latin unicorn on fire. He's an extremely beautiful male. And so, I knew that he definitely had the image and I know that he's got a really cool voice too," Nolan explained when sizing up his competition.

Adam ultimately declared Nolan the winner due to a strong connection they had established on the show. Adam also pointed out that Nolan can "sing anything."

"When I went to bed [after the episode], I was so grateful that they would cut to Johnny when I wasn't singing, because you kind of just stand there, you know, and don't know what to do," Nolan revealed.

The singer added he's very "grateful" to have "made it through" and wishes Johnny all the best in his future endeavors.

"I still FaceTime with Johnny all the time. He's my boy. I mean, I love that kid. So I expect to see big things happen for him too," Nolan told Reality TV World.
