A wine fueled evening of looking for love online led Johnna to Garrett, who was serving a seven-year sentence for burglary, grand theft, and several other counts. And after dating for four years, Garrett was finally released from prison.
After Garrett was released from prison, the couple moved into a home Johnna had bought in Tampa, with Johnna expecting Garrett would soon propose and her dream wedding would follow.
However, Garrett was in no hurry to propose and the couple soon seemed to be spending most of their time arguing about how Garrett was spending his money and free time.
Garrett eventually proposed to "give her what she wanted" and convinced Johnna they should just elope at the beach alone.
But, as viewers saw on Love After Lockup's Season 1 finale, Johnna got cold feet when the wedding day came and begged Garrett to not make her get married alone with none of her family and friends present. Garrett agreed -- and even appeared a little relieved!
During a Love After Lockup: Where Are They Now? special that aired on WE tv in November 2018, Johnna and Garrett confirmed they broke up and split up after four and a half years together.
According to Garrett -- who claims he knew the relationship was over right after the failed elopement -- he decided to move out of their home when Johnna went out of town one weekend. Garrett then began dating his new girlfriend Nellie, and the pair moved in together after only a month or two of dating.
According to Johnna -- who admits she tried to get back together with Garrett after he moved out and thought he would come back -- Nellie began publicly identifying herself as Garrett's girlfriend only two weeks after Garrett dumped Johnna.
Johnna also finds it noteworthy that Nellie was a bartender at the strip club Garrett used to go to all the time when they were together, however Nellie claims she only started talking to Garrett after he split with Johnna.
Garrett admits he began cheating on Johnna about three months after he was released, but claims he can't even recall the names of the women.
After it became clear she wasn't going to be reconciling with Garrett, Johnna decided to move to Austin, TX for a fresh start. She also dyed her hair blonde to give herself a new look, and is currently single and "having fun" in Austin.
And Garrett and Nellie were still going strong, according to post-special update.
