The fifth season kicked off with an intro by Coach Chris Harrison. He said that we have seen so many different things with the previous Bachelors and Bachelorettes from romance, to weddings, and to the break-ups (Say it isn’t so Coach! We all thought Blob and Estella were such a great match, we can’t believe they’re not together any more.) But this season will be different, things we have never seen before (Yeah, right!!! Believe it when we see it. Keep in mind this is the same man who promises several times every week that this will be The.Most.Dramatic.Rose.Ceremony.Ever.)
ABC decided to tease us with some early clips. Okay, maybe I was wrong, with the previews of the season, it does look quite interesting. Jesse making a mistake, and calling the wrong name at a rose ceremony, hunting with a guy who appears to be carrying an automatic weapon, and a spy in the midst. Oh my! (As for the spy, one of Jesse’s married female friends was acting on his behalf, and posed as a contestant to give him the inside scoop of all the other girls.)
During the countdown show, we learned a little more about Jesse James Palmer. (I know, what were they thinking, naming a child Jesse James? Hold on, I thought he was a football player, not a western outlaw!) His mother was a model and his father played in the Canadian Football League, so he is originally from Ontario, Canada. He obviously couldn’t stand the cold, and decided the sunshine of the University of Florida was calling his name for college, and got a football scholarship. He got his degree in Political Science and Business. And is now a back-up quarterback for the New York Giants.
Some of his Giants teammates decided that he needed some help ahead of time, and looked through the pictures of the 25 girls ahead of time. The three guys certainly enjoyed drooling over the pictures, talk about living vicariously. (One girl was compared to a teammate of theirs. Ouch!!! That can’t be good!) They also called the photo album the book of Jesse’s girls. (Must fight urge to find 80’s music and listen to Rick Springfield, now.)

The next thing you know, it’s time to head out to LA.
Pre-Game Warm-up
Out in LA, the girls finally get to meet the competition. From the time they meet to the time of the party there was only a few hours, so the producers prepped them and told them that they needed to make appointments for hair and make-up. (One girl said she felt like she was at a pageant because the others were all so pretty and they were getting pampered. While getting her make-up done, another asks if Jesse has their names beside their pictures when he is deciding who to keep. The answer to that is no. (However, all things considered, it would not be a bad idea – stay tuned for more info on that.) This was also time for the producers to start showing why some of the girls didn’t like Trish. As she was putting on her shoes, she stated “I’m going to capitalize on my very long, very pretty legs which will be wrapped around Jesse sometime.” (Haven’t even met the guy yet, and is talking about wrapping her legs around him??? No wonder the other contestants call her a “gold-digging, money-grubbing whore, and a skank.” And also Coach Chris referred to her as the most hated woman in Bachelor history. (Wow, now that takes a lot to say considering Kirsten and LeeAnger!)
Now, finally the women in the viewing audience get to see some good eye candy. We are treated to clips of Jesse preparing for the big night. Certainly I am not going to complain about clips of Jesse straight from a shower with only a towel wrapped around him
The next thing you know, Jesse is at the bachelor pad, waiting for the limos to arrive. During a talk with Chris, Jesse mentions that he wants a genuine person who is not clingy and not materialistic. He also reminds us that football is only a small part of who he is.
